Weekly School Update
Dear Parents,
As we head into this long weekend, we highlight two student events commencing next week as well as reminders of no school this Monday and great pictures of staff recognition and guest speakers.
The first event is for sixth grade students only and is called, "Jump on Over to the Shepard Gym". It is next Friday, March 8, from 7p-8:15p. The gym will be transformed into an inflatable wonderland with jumping, dessert and friends.
But here's the catch: we need your help to make this event a reality. In order for "Jump on Over to the Shepard Gym" to happen, we need a minimum of 75 kids to register by tonight. The registration deadline is fast approaching, so don't delay! Visit ShepardPTSO.org to sign up your child and secure their spot for this incredible night of fun.
Next, we are finally ready to host "Shepard Pack the Place," a basketball charity event that will take place on March 6, 2024, at 5 PM in the Shepard gym. It's going to be a slam dunk so don't miss it.
This exciting event will showcase the talent and teamwork of our eighth-grade basketball teams as they go head-to-head against members of the Deerfield police and fire departments. It's a friendly competition that aims to bring our community together for a fun-filled evening. This event also includes cheer squad and pep band performances, raffles, concessions. Come and be prepared to enjoy a great evening. All proceeds will go towards the 100 Club. Hope to see everyone there.
Thank you for your continued support,
Dr. Theresa Dunkin, Principal
Mrs. Marie Zlotnikov, Associate Principal
Mrs. Ginger Logemann, District Coordinator of Student Services

Track and Field Thursday, Feb 29th Meeting
The Shepard Variety Show is back!!! The Variety Show is an opportunity for students to share their unique talents with their school community. This activity is open to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. Students can audition to showcase their special talents and perform on stage. Talents can include, but are not limited to dancing, singing, musical performances, martial arts, magic tricks, comedy acts, speed rubix cube demo, lip sync battle, battle of the bands, hosting the show, and more. If students are interested in being involved but prefer not to be on stage, they can participate in stage crew which includes running the sound, microphones, moving scenery, and helping backstage during the show. Auditions will be at the beginning of April, so now is the time for students to start planning their act and getting their group together! If they are not able to make the audition day, please have them contact Mrs. Thompson to arrange another time. The performance will be May 24th during a school assembly. If students need help coming up with ideas for their act, they can email Mrs. Thompson for help at kthompson1@dps109.org . Students interested should also join the google classroom for the Variety Show with code: ks2huky . We will need enough acts for the Variety Show to happen, so please encourage your student to show off their talents!
