African music history
African music has a long history that has been passed down from one generation to the other and captured in written and found in journals of western explorers. Writings on African music are largely based under categories such as African music; world music, global music and ethnomusicology influences the discussion of African music. Most of the African music history has been surrounded by controversy on representation of African cultural heritage by non-native observers.

How African music contributed to popular American Music.
African music contributed to American music such as blues, ragtime, jazz, boogie-woogie, rhythm and blues, doo-wop, rock'n roll, soul, funk, disco, hip, hop, house, techno, and trap constituted a principle modern generation of African music. Almost all the genres of music that were listed came from early stages of the slave trade by combining european music and african music to create these different forms of music. All except hip hop, house and techno, which were formed later in the 20th century from earlier forms of African-American music such as funk and soul.
