ADVANCED PLACEMENT AP/EARLY COLLEGE EXPERIENCE ECE COURSE DESCRIPTION
FRENCH 4/ECE GRAMMAR COMPOSITION
FRENCH 4:
This course is designed for students who would like to continue their studies in the language at a more advanced level.The emphasis at this level of language learning is on intensive oral and written communication as well as the review of all structures.
Students will explore and analyze the Francophone culture through individual research, current issues, literary readings, and movies.
UCONN ECE FREN 3268 GRAMMAR AND COMPOSITION
Three credits.Recommended preparation: an advanced study of French texts and extensive written practice in a variety of forms ranging from compositions, essays, summaries and film reviews.
FRENCH AP / ECE CULTURE
This course is the important culmination of the high school language program.It will emphasize the use of language for active communication in a wide variety of contexts. Students will demonstrate their ability to function in the language in various situations and modalities at an advanced level. By the end of the first semester, students must commit to take the AP exam.
UCONN FRENCH 3250 CULTURE 1
Three credits. Intense study of oral French.Learning of oral techniques of communication in conjunction with weekly topics of conversation associated with various francophone cultures. Rigorous and active oral practice through dialogues, interviews, round tables, and oral reports.
FRENCH AP/ECE WORKLOAD
Summer work includes the following:
· Past tense review (2-3 hours)
· AP reading exposure (2 hours)
· Movie analysis and AP Listening exposure 2:30 minutes
· Summer journal (10 short entries) 30 min.
TOTAL WORK: about 8 hours
Weekly homework time commitment:
· Between 40-90 minutes of work including the following:
· Reading and writing integrated
· Listening and speaking integrated
· Integration of culture in writing evaluation
· Vocabulary and grammar activities embedded.
Unit Expectations:
Six integrated performance assignments.
