Tashua Family Weekly Update
Mrs. Neumeyer, Principal
November 18, 2022
Dear Tashua Families,
Fall is in the air and what better way to celebrate November than focusing on gratitude and kindness. We are happy to announce that Tashua's gratitude tree is complete! It has been a pleasure to read some of the things our students are thankful for including "I am grateful for my kind teachers for helping me when I needed it," "I am grateful for my family and my friends" and "I am grateful for my home."
If you have created a gratitude tree at home and you wish to have it shared in the weekly update, please email it to jneumeye@trumbullps.org.
In addition, we also have taken some time to reflect on all that we value and appreciate as a school community:
At Tashua School, we appreciate:
Students who:
are eager to come to school each day
put forth their best effort
embrace new learning challenges
strive to exhibit positive T.I.G.E.R. character traits
respect and support their peers and staff members
Staff who:
strive for excellence in all they do
are dedicated to meeting the needs of our students
are willing to take on challenges and embrace new learning
share ideas and work collaboratively
are empathetic and truly care for one another
Families who:
work as a team to support the learning of students
are dedicated to providing resources and fun experiences for our school community
are caring and supportive of our community and work together to help those in need
provide opportunities for enrichment activities throughout the year
are supportive of staff and show their appreciation

On Monday, students in the upper grades worked with their buddy classes in the lower grades to celebrate Kindness Day. Teachers shared read alouds and spoke to students about what it means to be kind.

Kindness is my Superpower: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6P-Y_M9q7RM
Following the videos, students brainstormed ideas with their buddy partners and created sentence strips on what they can do to be kind. These strips were used to create bulletin boards and classes have been encourage to view other boards. What a strong message of sharing kindness!
As always, if you have any questions, concerns, or good news to share, please feel free to email me at NeumeyeJ@trumbullps.org or contact me at school at 203-452-4433.
Thank you for your continued support for our work at Tashua School!
Fondly,
Mrs. Neumeyer

CLASSROOM HIGHLIGHTS
Grade 1
Grade 4
The fourth graders recently wrapped up their narrative writing unit with a writing celebration. Students were able to switch classrooms, read stories written by their peers, and offer compliments to each author. Not only were they eager to share their hard-work, but students also enjoyed getting feedback from each other.
SPOTLIGHT ON MATHEMATICS
Ms. Sangeeta Gidwani
Tashua School
Math Specialist
Grade 3 students had fun exploring liquid volume and learning about milliliters and liters. Ask your child how many milliliters are equal to 1 liter.
Grade 5 students explored fractional numbers greater than 1 whole by using fraction bars. They worked in teams to write the fraction as an improper fraction, a mixed number and a number bond. Ask your student to show you what they know about 7/4 or 10/3.

When Should I Keep My Child Home from School?
When a child is not feeling well, parents may struggle with the decision of sending their child to school or keeping him/her at home. Often the way a child looks and acts can make the decision an obvious one. There are also times when a student may have a communicable illness, which requires they stay home for a period of time.
Fever of 100 or higher
- May return to school when fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication.
Vomiting or Diarrhea
May return to school when vomiting or diarrhea free for 24 hours.
Colds/Sore Throats/Cough
- If your child is fever free and their cold symptoms are well controlled they may attend school. If your child is experiencing such things as purulent (thick) nasal discharge, or uncontrolled cough you may consider keeping them home until their symptoms are better controlled. If your child is experiencing other signs of illness associated with green nasal discharge including any of the following: fever, earaches, headaches, cough, nasal congestion, productive “barky” cough, persistent cough, please consider having the child seen by your healthcare provider.
Please notify the school nurse if your child has a been diagnosed with (click on links for more information)
Strep Throat Student may return 24 hours after first dose of antibiotic,
Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye) Following a diagnosis of conjunctivitis by a health care practitioner, the child may return to school 24 hours after the first dose of prescribed medicine

The goal of the school nurse is to facilitate keeping the students in school and ready to learn. However, there may be times when students may not feel well enough to be in school. A sick child is less able to learn effectively or to participate in class in a meaningful way. If your child is not feeling well, please exercise your best judgment and do not send him/her to school ill. Keeping your sick child home prevents the spread of illness in our school community and it allows your child to rest and recover.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. Thank you for your help and cooperation.
