This past month, students have continued talking about fiction vs. nonfiction. We have read a variety of books and then we discuss the fiction or nonfiction elements of it. We've had some fun drawing activities to tie into these books as well.
Book checkout day is FRIDAY for both classes.

In December, 1st grade did a great job with computer coding. They worked in pairs at times and also individually at times.

I also collaborated with the 1st grade teachers to help with their animal research projects. We used a great new database this year called PebbleGo! Students also typed up their information onto slides which we will compile.

In December, students were really engaged with various computer coding activities! During this past month, we talked about the Optimist Good Reader program. An email went home at the beginning of the month regarding this program. Students are encouraged to read a variety of books and participate in a few different reading related activities. We are working towards completing some of these books/activities in library class, but if students are interested in doing more, they are encouraged to do so on their own at home. Please let me know if you have any questions. The deadline to submit their reading and activity logs is February 17. This program lends itself to talking about different types of literary genres. We are reading books from different genres and comparing/contrasting them.
Book checkout day is on TUESDAY for Mrs. Cernuto.
Book checkout day is on FRIDAY for Mr. Green.

5th and 6th Grade
In December, students were really engaged with various computer coding activities!
This past month, 5th and 6th graders have started rotating stations during library class. The current stations include Type to Learn in the computer lab, Coding on the iPads, and direct instruction from me on the Dewey Decimal System. Students have watched videos to explain how/why the system was put into place, and we're learning about the 10 groups books are divided into. We've then tried to place books in the correct classification based on their titles/knowing what the book is about.
Book checkout day is on WEDNESDAY for Mrs. Mulligan.
Book checkout day is on THURSDAY for 6th grade.
