A Message from Your CCHS Admin Team
Happy New Year! This is a great time to encourage your student to set goals and engage in school activities.
It's never too early to begin discussing college and career aspirations with your student. If you want guidance on some clear "to-do's" to help your student, check out the grade-level college and career readiness checklists that can be found under the parent's tab on the website or simply by clicking here. If your student wants additional college and career guidance, we encourage you and your student to schedule a meeting with one of our counselors or our ASPIRE Coordinator, Kelly Dunn.
The countdown to graduation is on for our seniors! As a result, every Wednesday during ELO, counselors, teachers, and the ASPIRE coordinator will be available in the library to help students with FAFSA, Scholarships, and College or Career Technical Education Applications.
Sincerely,
CCHS Admin Team

CTE: Career Technical Education Update
Program Highlight: Construction
Mr. Berg's Construction program has been jam-packed with learning skills and completing hands-on projects this year. CCHS started a construction program last year after a huge interest from students and the community. The program is set up into three different levels.
In Construction 1, students have the opportunity to learn over 20+ different construction trades. Included are framing, roofing, electrical, plumbing, drywall, concrete, masonry, HVAC, tile setting, and green energy, to name a few. Once students complete Construction 1, they can then move into Construction 2. This allows students to practice these skills on real-life projects.
Students this term have already built storage/garden sheds and picnic tables. These are being built and sold by the students. All proceeds go back into the program to buy more materials for future projects.
Next year, students will move on to Construction 3, building bigger construction projects that incorporate many different trades skills. We are excited about the opportunities our students have in the construction trades. If you are interested in purchasing any of these projects, please get in touch with our Construction Teacher, Ron Berg.

The Importance of Attendance
Regular attendance is critically important to academic success. Whether a student misses school for an excused or unexcused reason at the high school level, they are responsible for making up the course work missed.
Here are a few facts to know about attendance:
- Missing more than 10% of school, equivalent to 12 days of school annually, classifies a student as an irregular attender. (Oregon Department of Education).
- "When students improve their attendance rates, they improve their academic prospects and chances for graduating." (AttendanceWorks.org, 2018).
- "Irregular attendance can be a better predictor of whether students will drop out of school before graduation than test scores." (American University, 2021).
- "When children are absent from school, they miss out on consistent instruction that is needed to develop basic skills." (American University, 2021).
If your child is struggling with attendance, here are strategies to help them:
- Talk with your child to understand their barriers to attending.
- Schedule a meeting with a school administrator to help your student develop a plan.
- Set goals for attendance with your student and communicate them with teachers, counselors, and administration.
Let's take care of each other, CCHS! Our admin team, counselors, and teachers are here to help your student be successful, and we are always happy to see them here at school! Please don't hesitate to let us know if we can help your student with attendance.
