This Is How We Lakeview
July 2023 Edition: Volume 4
Latest Updates
We hope our students had a great first week back in the building coming back from Spring Break. As a reminder, we do not have school this coming Monday. We are closed so our students and families can enjoy the solar eclipse (hoping with no clouds!). Students received their eclipse glasses during PAW Time today. Please remind your student(s) to wear their glasses and use them appropriately when viewing the eclipse.
Next week starts our three-week window for state testing. On Wednesday and Thursday (April 10th and 11th), students will take Part 1 and Part 2 of the ELA test. Please remind your student(s) to make sure their Chromebook is fully charged so they don't run into battery issues while taking the test. Also -- and this is a big one -- all cell phones must be turned off and put away during testing.

Cell Phone Policy Reminder
The issue of cell phones in schools has been a topic of discussion around the state recently, so we want to remind families of our building policy.
The district's cell phone policy for grades 7-12 permits students to use their cell phone "before and after school, during their lunch break, in between classes as long as they do not create a distraction, disruption or otherwise interfere with the educational environment, during after school activities (e.g., extra-curricular activities), or at school-related functions." At Lakeview, this means that students are allowed to use their phones during class change and during their lunch period in the Cafeteria.
The progression we follow to enforce cell phone use violations is as follows:
1st violation: Warning and Contact Home (either student emails home and copies teacher OR teacher emails/calls home)
2nd violation: Lunch Detention
3rd violation and beyond: Office Referral
May Dance Expectations
As we toward the end of the school year, one of the bigger events still on the calendar is our annual May Dance, which will be held on Saturday, May 18th. More information will be sent out in future newsletters.
Starting April 2nd, when we return from Spring Break, any student who receives In-School Study (ISS) or Out-of-School Suspension (OSS) as a result of a behavior incident will be ineligible to attend the May Dance.
Reminder from our School Nurse
Per PLSD policy, medication must be delivered and picked up by a parent/guardian. Students should not be storing or transporting medication in their book bag. The correct paperwork must be completed and the medication needs to be in the original container and not expired. Please call (614) 830-2203 if you have any questions. Thanks!
Prescription medications
In the event your child needs to take prescription medication while at school, the Request for Administration of Medication by School Personnel form must be completed by the child’s physician and parents.
Nonprescription medication such as Advil, Tylenol, cough drops, etc. may be administered to students if the parent/guardian brings in the medication along with written permission for the medication to be given. All medications must be sent in the original container and must not be expired. Dosages cannot exceed the manufacturer’s recommendations for age and weight. We must have a note from the doctor to give a dose of medication that is different from the dose stated on the bottle.
Updated COVID Guidelines
Please read through the latest guidance from the CDC and Ohio Department of Health regarding COVID.
