READING NEWS
From: Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Wenrich, & Mrs. Williams
April showers bring READING HOURS! April has a lot of exciting special days devoted to literacy. The entire month has 30 days devoted to poetry as it is “National Poetry Month”. Here are a few days you can choose to celebrate as a family at home.
April 12th is D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything and Read) Day
April 12th is the birthday of beloved author Beverly Cleary, whose characters Ramona and older sister Beezus are now favorites of a new generation of readers. On this day, families are encouraged to take at least 30 minutes to put aside all distractions and enjoy books together. Reading aloud to your children is one of the most important things you can do to ensure their future success.
April 21st is Poem in Your Pocket Day
On Poem in Your Pocket Day, people throughout the United States select a poem, carry it with them, and share it with others throughout the day. Share your poem selection with someone or on Twitter by using the hashtag #pocketpoem.
April 30th is El día de los niños/El día de los libros
El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Day of the Child/Day of the Book) is a celebration based on childhood and literacy that began in 1997. Borrowing from the traditional Mexican holiday "El día de los niños," the American version expanded to include literacy when acclaimed author Pat Mora took up the cause in 1997. A year later, the U.S. Congress officially designated April 30 as "Day of the Child." Share books together or tell stories to each other. Have a book fiesta!
SAVE THE DATE - BOOK FAIR IN THE LIBRARY
SAVE THE DATE!
Ebenezer will be hosting a “Get Ready for Summer” Book Fair in the Library the week of May 13th-17th through the local Books a Million (BAM) store. Students may shop the fair during their scheduled library class time. A Family Night is scheduled for May 15th where you can stop by the fair to shop before the Chorus Concert. More information coming soon…I look forward to offering this opportunity to our students and families!

CHORUS AND SHOW CHOIR SPRING CONCERT
Hello!
The Spring Concert featuring the Chorus and Show Choir is coming up on Wednesday, May 15th at 7:00pm in the Ebenezer Cafetorium, as well as an in-school concert for students that same day. If your child is in one or both of those groups, now is the time to start thinking about what they will wear for the performances.
For both performances, concert attire is black and white. Students are to wear some type of plain white shirt or blouse (Example: turtleneck or dress shirt. Please no T-shirts.), black skirt/dress (no jeans), and nice dress shoes (no sneakers, if possible). Due to walking/standing on risers and Show Choir dancing on the stage, I do not recommend high heels be worn. Girls who are in Show Choir may wear a dress, but MUST have black leggings on underneath as they will be moving around on stage.
You can also find this information by going to my website, https://ebmusicroom.weebly.com/, and clicking on “Chorus.”
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. The students are working hard to put on a great concert for everyone!
