A Message from the Principal
We have been busy at Hoosier Road Elementary this Fall! I wanted to thank all of our HRE families and students for the impact that made recently with the Pasta Bowl. We were able to collect over 2,300 pounds of pasta and this pasta will go to local families struggling with food insecurities. We appreciate your help with this worthy cause.
Sincerely,
Jeni Ricketts, Principal

Next week, we are celebrating National School Lunch Week. Every child that purchases a lunch meal deal will receive a special treat. If you do distribute any of the sheets, we would absolutely LOVE to display them on our walls for everyone to see!
Note from the Office
Please remember to schedule lunch visits by calling 915-4240 between 8:15—9:00 AM the day of. Sorry, no advance lunch reservations can be handled.
Please remember that if you would like to purchase a school lunch, you must bring cash or a check for $3.36. The district no longer allows parents to charge their lunch to their child's lunch account.
When reporting an absence or late arrival, we will ask you for your child’s name, their teacher’s name and a brief reason for their absence. The direct line for our attendance is 317-915-4248. Even if you email the teacher, you MUST report the absence to the office! Thank you!
HRE Maker Space
We rolled out the Makerspace in the library and we have 2 sections. There is a creation & building section where students bring out their “inner engineer” and we also have a “make + take" part where kids can create items and take their creations home. Many of the students can access this space after they have found their books. Teachers will also be able to book additional times in the Makerspace to do science-based projects that align with our education standards, or have time to work with other classes in a cooperative building time.
If you would like to help donate to the Make + Take section, please consider sending in the following items. Your help would be GREATLY appreciated! Here is a list that would benefit the students at HRE:
- beads
- wooden popsicle sticks
- tape (masking, regular tape, duct tape)
- markers
- buttons
- pipe cleaners
- construction paper
- string/yarn
School Fees
All K-4 student book and iPad rental fees are due today. Fees may be paid via EFunds or by sending in a check made out to Hoosier Road Elementary. If you haven't sent in your payment, you can still pay online.

Volunteers and Lunch Visitors
Hoosier Road Elementary always has many opportunities for parents to become involved. Whether it’s through volunteering in the classroom or a PTO event, attending classroom activities or even eating lunch with your child, you must have a valid background check on file and view the anti-bullying training on-line. Background checks are valid for three years. Please allow up to 6 business days for checks to be completed. Please follow this link for complete directions: http://www.hse.k12.in.us/ADM/parents/volunteering.aspx
We want you to be able to interact with our students but we also need to adhere to strict safety guidelines set forth by our school district. Look for an email from Safe Visitor Solutions which will issue a bar code unique to you. Please bring that bar code (on your phone or on paper) on your first visit to HRE so we may take your photo! Thank you for your compliance and for helping to keep all of our students safe.
