FPS Introduces Second Step Social & Emotional Learning Curriculum K-8
Now more than ever, we need to address the whole child. Best practice shows that students who feel safe and secure are better prepared to engage in their learning.
Therefore, we are excited to announce that we are introducing Second Step in our K-8 classes beginning January 24, 2022, to further strengthen our commitment to social and emotional learning. (For more information about the benefits of SEL, please check out the quick video below.)
The program is already being used in our DK classes, as well as in classrooms throughout our elementary schools by our social workers.
Second Step offers weekly, age-appropriate virtual lessons for students to help them with various social and emotional skills. These weekly lessons will build on and support all of the great work we're doing at Ike to support our students. Combined with our schoolwide restorative practices and consistent PBIS expectations, we are creating a firm Tier 1 foundation for supporting all of our students' social, emotional, and behavioral development.
Please view the flyers below to learn more about the program topics, and look for additional updates from classroom teachers and ALL district newsletters.

More Changes from the Health Department
As of Friday, January 20th, The Macomb County Health Department has updated guidelines regarding contact tracing quarantines within the school environment.
As Ms. Wozniak shared in her January 21st email, here are the major changes as they relate to responding to a positive case at school:
- All students and staff in the impacted classroom should monitor for symptoms.
- Those who have or develop symptoms should isolate and test for COVID-19.
- Others may quarantine individually but are not required to unless symptoms develop.
To keep up with all Covid-related information, including our testing center, any changes to health department guidelines, and our daily case counts, you can go to our FPS Covid Dashboard at any time.
Remember, the best way to do YOUR PART to help keep our community healthy and in school teaching and learning is to keep children with any potential sign of illness at home until the cause is determined by a medical professional.
PLEASE continue to notify us at (586) 439-6600 if your child tests positive for Covid-19 or has been in contact with someone who has. It is crucial that we have this information and keep sick people at home to help us keep healthy teachers and students at school teaching and learning.

Your Input is Requested...
As you may know, each year Eisenhower Elementary develops a comprehensive School Improvement Plan. As part of this process, we review program data and survey stakeholders to assess programs and determine target areas. At this time, we are currently planning for the 2022-2023 school year. As part of this process we’d love your input. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey linked below.

Please be assured that your responses to this survey will be anonymous. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.
This survey will close on Friday, Tuesday, February 1st.
Lunch Aides Needed at Ike!
Lunch aides are needed every M-F at Ike. These are paid positions and applicants must be capable of going outside in temperatures above 10 degrees. Interested candidates should contact Mr. Tonn at (586)439-6600 and complete an application HERE. We look forward to hearing from you!
Keeping Illness Out of School
Community spread of Covid-19 is quite high, right now, and there are many other contagious illnesses going around this time of year, too. PLEASE continue to keep your child at home if he/she has any sign of illness until the cause has been identified by a medical professional. This includes seemingly minor symptoms like a stuffy nose or tickle in the throat. Please do not assume it's "just a cold" or "just allergies." We will send symptomatic students home until a negative Covid test or a trip to the doctor clears them to be able to attend school.
Please remember that aside from Covid-19, many other illnesses are also contagious, so students who are sick should not be at school with colds, Strep throat, the flu, or stomach bugs either. Things to keep in mind:
A fever is a sign of some form of infection. Children should remain home if running a fever. A child must be fever-free for 24 hours without the benefit of medication (i.e. Tylenol) before returning to school.
If a child vomits, they may not return to school until he/she is symptom-free for at least 24 hours.
Also, PLEASE continue to notify us at (586) 439-6600 if your child tests positive for Covid-19 or has been in contact with someone who has. It is crucial that we have this information and keep sick people at home to help us keep healthy teachers and students at school teaching and learning.
