The Mustang Minute
Week of February 26th - March 1st, 2024
Principal's Message
Mustang Family,
I want to update you on some changes to our March PTSA schedule. The Coffee with the Principal meeting that was previously scheduled for Thursday, March 7th has been rescheduled for Thursday, April 4th. However, we'd like for you to still come to the PTSA general meeting that is scheduled for that same morning at 8:00 AM in the Library. This meeting will feature a guest speaker presenting information on the upcoming GCISD Bond and should be very informative. The March 25th evening PTSA meeting will still be taking place at its normally scheduled time, 6:30 PM. During this meeting officers will be elected for the upcoming 24-25 school year so we encourage all who would like to take part in this process to attend.
This week's newsletter features a brand new link to the beautifully created, information loaded CTE Website! Special shout out to Stephanie Speaks, Katie Wawak, and Charity McConnell for all of the work they've committed to creating the CTE Website. We hope you spend some time perusing all that CTE has to offer!
In case you haven't heard, the GCISD Chic Boutique has recently expanded their offerings to include formal wear for guys. They now have a variety of suits, shirts, blazers, shoes, and ties available to help you get ready for upcoming prom and banquet seasons. And if you're a lady, don't worry - there are even more beautiful dresses to choose from as well. Be sure to check it out if you're in need of any formal wear. You can find more information on their available times and dates to shop on their flyer below.
On Wednesday, February 28th, there will be a Speech and Debate Showcase event taking place at GHS. The event is designed to better inform those who are interested in learning more about the program and what it has to offer. It all starts at 6:00 PM in the Lecture Hall, so if you're curious about GHS Speech & Debate, definitely consider coming out to this fun and informational night. More information about the event can be found below.
Finally, we are proud to announce our Grapevine High School Teacher of the Year - Mrs. Jane Rose and our Paraprofessional of the Year - Ms. Sharon Evans. If you happen to see either of them, feel free in sharing in this celebration, as they move forward to represent Grapevine at the district level.

DARN Mini College Fair
The GHS Counseling Department hosted a mini college fair for juniors with approximately 40 institutions from across the country. Students had the opportunity to speak with admission reps, ask questions and get information on programs available. Stay tuned for the fall when we host our BIG college fair with over 100 institutions from across the U.S.
SAT Day - March 6th (During School)
GCISD will be offering the opportunity for all juniors to take the SAT, at no cost to the students, on Wednesday, March 6th, during the school day. Students who are juniors are automatically registered and do not need to sign up. The test is digital, like the PSAT in October, and all students with College Board approved accommodations will have those embedded or in place for them for this administration. There will be a ten minute break in between sections of the exam and students are encouraged to bring a snack and water bottle to access during that break.
While the college admissions landscape continues to change in regards to national testing requirements, there are many benefits to our students taking advantage of this opportunity. Check out College Board to access information about the SAT, practice tests, etc. for your junior to prepare.
If you have any questions regarding the SAT offering, please contact Laura Foutch at laura.foutch@gcisd.net.
**For students in grades 9, 10, and 12, school will resume as usual, but some classes may be relocated. Our hope is for testing to be completed by the time lunches begin and testers will return to their regular schedule.
AP Deadlines - March of 6th (Final Deadline)
AP Parents and Students,
There are several deadlines regarding AP testing this semester:
- Mar 6, 2024- Final deadline for all students, full year or second semester only, to order a test with the mandatory College Board $40 late fee incurred. The fee is only incurred for exams for full year classes that missed the November deadline.
- Apr 19, 2024- Final payment deadline for all AP exams.
- Exam dates and times
2024 STAAR End-of-Course Testing Dates
The following dates are the initial administration of each exam. Students who are absent on these dates will be tested on the makeup dates during the week of the initial administration. For example, a student absent on April 9th or 10th will take the makeup on 11th or 12th before the window before that exam closes.
Students not testing will report at regular time (8:40AM) and follow their regular schedule.

Mustang Men's Soccer
In a hard-fought match, our Mustangs displayed incredible determination but unfortunately fell short with a 1-0 loss to Colleyville on Tuesday. Despite their best efforts and relentless energy on the field, the opposing team managed to secure a narrow victory. Your Mustangs showcased resilience and skill throughout the game with many several scoring opportunities and demonstrating exceptional teamwork but just could not find the back of the net. While the outcome may not have been in our favor this time, the Men’s Soccer team's commitment and spirit serve as a testament to their dedication to the sport. The team will regroup, learn from this experience, and come back stronger in the battles ahead as they take on Birdville on Friday.
Additionally, the Men’s team hosted an exciting "Future Player Night" at halftime on Tuesday. Young athletes were able to get on the field with their enthusiasm and dreams of one day gracing that field as Mustang. It was a wonderful opportunity to inspire and connect with the next generation of players, fostering a love for the game and igniting their passion for sports. Here's to nurturing future talent and building a strong sporting community together!
Mustang Lady Soccer
Our Lady Mustangs had their second matchup against rival CHHS this past Tuesday
night and while the final score may not have been in our favor, our girls demonstrated
resilience, sportsmanship, and commitment throughout the match. Below are some
highlights and be sure to come out to celebrate our Seniors on Tuesday, February 27th
at our next home game against Denton Ryan at 7:30! Senior Presentations will be
before our game.
