Warrior News
A Weekly Newsletter for Warrior Families and Students
November 6, 2020
It's A Wrap!
Can you believe we just wrapped up the first quarter of the 2020-21 school year? I can not say enough how incredibly proud and grateful I am for the collective efforts of our staff, students, and families. In a year filled with so much uncertainty and unwanted change, our entire community has pulled together in the manners that Warriors do!
Everywhere you look, Warriors are stepping up to make a difference, like the after school blood drive that saw over 40 community members show up to donate. These efforts will impact over 125 lives in our community! That is just awesome!
Additionally, it is the actions of our clubs like our National Music Honor society (Tri M) who capitalized on the Halloween weekend to collect food donations for the Muskego Food Pantry. It’s our Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) club who is working to collect and recycle crayons to donate to local hospitals for kids. It is even the simple things like our Warrior Football team coming to school early to hold the doors open for their peers.
Yes, there is so much to be proud of in our Warrior community. Whether it be the academic successes regardless of the learning platform, the service and commitment from our co-curricular clubs, the inspiring sounds of our performing arts, or the incredible dedication and effort from our athletic teams. Yes indeed, it is a great day to be a Warrior.
As we head into our second quarter, let's continue to make the most of every day. Whether you are working at home virtually or coming to MHS everyday with a smile on your face, you are a part of our Warrior Family.
The work you do, even during trying times, is important. Our students need great, caring teachers and the work we do in schools gives EVERY student a chance to find their path, grow their skills, and open doors.
Thank you for everything you do. Know that you make a difference.
Sincerely,
Todd Irvine
FBLA is Hosting a Crayon Drive
Hello Warriors! FBLA will be hosting a crayon drive through November 13th. Boxes and bins can be found throughout the school, where you can drop off your old crayons. These crayons will be donated to The Crayon Incentive. This organization takes old crayons to recycle and gives them to children in hospitals. Make sure to bring old crayons to donate!
To learn more about The Crayon Initiative to learn more click here.
I also have a link to The Crayon Initiative's promotional video that you can include if you like. This is the link: The Crayon Initiative Story I was wondering if this could be in your newsletter until the drive ends. Then on the last day, November 13th, we can let everyone know how much we were able to collect. If you want to edit or make any changes feel free and let me know if you have any questions.
Upcoming Blue Days
November 23rd and 24th are scheduled to be virtual “Blue Days” for all MHS students. During these two days, student services will be offering virtual workshops for all juniors and seniors and one all-grade virtual student social workshop! Topics will include but are not limited to, post secondary planning, opportunities while in high school, college and career exploration, CONNECT Academy, and stress management. Students were sent a survey to sign up for the sessions they are most interested in attending and will be sent a google meet link to participate virtually these days. All students will also be provided with an ACP activity that allows them to create their own stress-management plan. Workshop topics and times can be found here.
ACT
The ACT is postponing the section-only testing that was planned to start this September in order to increase testing capacity for those who need to take the full ACT test. At this time, ACT is planning for section retesting to be available later in 2021 but will continue to monitor the impacts of COVID-19 on test center capacity to prioritize safe and equitable access to testing.
Please see dates below. Registration deadlines are well in advance of the test date: Register Here
PLEASE NOTE: All juniors will take the ACT during the school day on March 9th. Students will register at school as a group.
ACT Prep opportunities may be found here
Gymnastics Team 2020-2021

Mechanical
The Mechanical Team continued to work on redesigning parts of our 2020 robot. They prototyped a new mechanism to spin the color wheel, fixed the climbing mechanism with new hardened sprockets, and continued work on the intake. New members of the mechanical team got certified on tools and learned about prototyping and design. A group also started to learn CAD (Computer-Aided Design) and design some projects.
Electrical
The Electrical Team took apart the 2019 robot to get all the parts off of it so they can build another electric board to work with. Next month, they plan on rewiring the 2020 robot to improve it. They also began working on pneumatics and set up a mock system. Finally, they started planning electrical projects with the Business Team to improve organization and get a plan for the upcoming months on what should be made and improved.
Programming
The Programming Team worked on writing JAVA code for the practice robot. They have also been teaching new members how to program. This has been a slow process; however, they are happy to be improving and learning more skills. The 2020 robot also had some programming done trying to work through problems discovered in the drivetrain in September. They were excited to get a new driver station laptop donated to the team and started working with it during the previous week’s meeting.
Business
The Business Team worked on creating social media posts. They have set up documents that outline what each platform needs to ensure consistent posts across platforms. They also designed and made locker signs to put on team members’ lockers around the high school. Working with all the sub-teams, they created project lists for better organization and communication across the entire team.
