Brown School Buzz
April 3, 2023
Dear Families,
As I flip another page of my Ansel Adams calendar (yes, I still have a paper wall calendar), I realize I will never stop marveling at how fast the school year passes. It''s astounding to think we are almost at our spring break and planning for the 2023-24 school year. We have already received a few questions from parents about the placement process for the fall.
This year, we will be offering parents the opportunity to share your child's strengths, challenges, and needs as we begin our placement process. While specific teacher requests will not be considered, we are interested in your perspective as we do our very best to place your child in a classroom environment that is best suited for his/her/their needs. Be on the look out for an email from me with a letter and feedback form explaining how you can share your thoughts about your child's placement for next year.
So, as we wrap up our Music in our School Month and head into April, please be sure to keep checking the backpack and your email for updates and information on field trips, projects, and special events. We are excited for the calendar of events we have in store for April ,My and June!
Chag Pesach Sameach and Happy Easter to all who are celebrating this week!
Safety in Our Schools
The National Association of School Psychologists has some good information in this article for Talking to Children About Violence: Tips for Parents and Teachers. I hope you find it helpful.
For our very young students, this article entitled: How To Talk to Young Kids About School Safety โ Even if You Think Itโs Too Early To Start can offer some information to help you facilitate these conversations as well.
If you do find yourself in one of these conversations with your child, please let them know their teachers and the grown ups at school will keep them safe. And because every emergency scenario is different, we ask that you emphasize to your children to always listen to the teacher or adult giving them directions. Even our regular evacuation procedure (fire drill) can change depending on the location of the concern, so it's important for our kids to be good listeners during any kind of emergency.
We will be having an evacuation drill in the coming weeks, and I will be sure to update you when that occurs. Again, I thank you all for your continued support and feedback as we navigate this world for our children, together.
REMINDER-Early Release this Friday, April 7 School will be Dismissed at Noon

Kindergarten Concert- Monday, April 10th
Yup! It's happening!
Safety is important. Projects must avoid contact with dangerous chemicals, sharp objects, highly flammable materials, open flames, and/or live animals.
Keep all of your notes, sketches, research and ideas in a notebook or folder.
Donโt throw away plans for ideas that didnโt work. Use these to show the design process.
Remember to take pictures and/or video to use in your display at the STEAM Fair.
All presentations must fit into a space 3 feet long by 2 ยฝ feet deep.
*All projects should go directly to the classroom on the day of the Fair. Students will have an opportunity to share their project with their classmates and be called in an orderly fashion to set up their projects in the gym after noon.
*We are so grateful to our Brown School PTO for sponsoring this event. No great event happens without the help of many volunteers, and we are still in need of people to help with set up, break down and helping students with their displays. Please help us if you can!
SIGN UP HERE TO VOLUNTEER AND HELP MAKE OUR FIRST STEAM EVENT SUCCESSFUL!
*Because so many students may be transporting their projects in vehicles, this may create a bit more AM traffic than usual. Please plan accordingly, and please be patient with one another.
The evening event begins at 6:00 PM. Students should plan on being with their project from 6:05-6:40. We are looking forward to a wonderful 1st Annual Brown School STEAM FAIR!!
