DTECH New Student Orientation/Open House May 16th
We wanted to let you know we will be having a new student orientation/ open house on May 16th here at DTEC from 5:30-6:30. This is an opportunity for all new students and parents to come meet their teacher and learn more about the program they have signed up for. Our hope is this will help to cut down on the number of students who drop the class in August and September because the class wasn't what they thought it was. Teachers will run 2 consecutive 30 minute presentations where they will go over their class, curriculum, expectations, & any equipment needed. There will also be time for parents and students to ask questions. If the class isn't what they want, we can help them find a class that might better fit their needs.
Please share this with your students who are coming to DTEC for the first time. Returning students and the public are also more than welcome to come out and see what we offer. Thanks!

Looking for a Job?!!
The Opportunity Fair on April 9 will be your chance to look for a career or just a summer job. Seniors will be attending the Opportunity Fair during the day, from 11:30-1:50. Colleges, military, volunteer organizations, apprenticeships, and companies looking to hire for summer jobs will be in attendance. Need a resume? Come see Mrs. Cupps for help.
Some of the organizations coming include: Idaho Department of Labor, Citibank, Idaho Youth Ranch, Roaring Springs, Boise Hawks, Western Heating and Air to name just a few!!
Sophomores and Juniors are encouraged to attend the Treasure Valley College Fair on Sunday, April 7, from 1-3 p.m. in the BSU Student Union. Parking is free in the Lincoln Garage. Over 50 colleges from the Northwest and beyond will be in attendance to visit with students and parents about their schools.
Students are encouraged to register for the fair at strivefair.com.
The School Day SAT will be given on April 9. Juniors will report to their assigned classroom by 7:45 a.m. The following materials will be needed for testing:
*Picture ID
*Calculator used in math class
*Small snack
*#2 pencils (not mechanical!!)
Students SHOULD NOT be bringing any electronics with them to the room. If student must bring electronics, especially phones, they will be asked to power them down immediately. If they are caught with a phone during testing they will be subject to being taken from the testing and will not receive a score for this SAT.
Students will complete testing around 12:15 and will be released for the day. Lunch will be served at the end of testing.
We encourage students to be in attendance for this test!! Not only is it a piece of the college application process but it is a graduation requirement. All students are required to take a college entrance exam prior to graduation. If they do not take the School Day test, arrangements will have to made for them to take the test on a Saturday.
Scores will be available sometime in the middle of May.
We are encouraging Juniors to attend the Opportunity Fair after their test, it is not a requirement but if they are looking for summer employment or volunteer opportunities, this would be great for them to attend!

Tips for Senioritis.
Are your seniors tired of school? Are they spending more time napping than homework? Are they drained of all motivation? It sounds like senioritis. There can be some serious consequences for students who don’t take their last semester serious. Colleges can rescind their acceptance. It can mess up their financial aid plans if the student’s GPA drops. If grades get bad enough, students may need Summer School to finish up. Summer School!!
There are several ways to help them make it to the finish line. Talk about their main plans - graduation, college and work. Though senioritis is normal for students, it is also normal to pull it together to finish strong. Most students find that spring semester moves fast; deadlines come fast too. Here is an article with some basic tips for how to help students with senioritis:
