Cardinal Connections
April 2024
❤️ Greetings Clinton Valley Families! ❤️
I hope you enjoyed having the kids home for spring break! We are officially in the homestretch of 2023-2024 school year. This time of the year tends to fly by and drag on all at the same time. We still have a lot of learning left to do as we approach end of the year testing. Before I get into all of that, I wanted to take a moment and reflect on the fantastic month that we completed as a Clinton Valley family. March was so much fun! We had so many wonderful things happening all month and celebrated hard. Each classroom studied a different part of the world and decorated their door to reflect their culture. At the beginning of the month, some "crazy person" came in and stole Clinton Valley's Cardinal Mascot which prompted "Carmen Sandiego" to travel the world looking for clues to steal it back. Each week she made an appearance and shared the clues that she found. We also filled a giant world map with titles of books that our kids read at home throughout the week and decorated the halls with family crests submitted by you. I LOVE them. We had a mystery reader visit from a princess, followed by professional soccer players from Michigan Stars, which was really fun. They were all very engaging readers, and the kids loved it. We also had our Book Bingo event. Thank you so much to the PTO and Cardinal Crawl fundraiser for such a wonderful event. We had hundreds of people out and every child went home with at least two brand new books. Thank you to everyone who helped and supported the night. That day we also had a science day put on by the PTO. The kids learned so much and got to experience many different phenomena related to the science world. To round out the month, we had a fantastic celebration the day before break. At our assembly, students from each class spoke in front of the entire school about their country, while displaying their country's flag. We also had a visit from "Carmen" who found the mascots! We named them "Clint" and "Val". To round out the day, students traveled the hallways as music played from all over the world. They landed in different countries where staff taught them fun facts about their country. The kids collected passport stickers as they traveled the world. It was truly such a fun day and a wonderful end to a fantastic month. I don't know how we will sustain this for years to come, but I have been told that ideas are already brewing. Check out the video below...
Moving forward, we have a low-key month. In April, we will focus on resetting after the break while concentrating on reaching our end-of-year goals. We will begin M-Step testing later in the month for grades 3-5. Please take a moment to check out the parent letter and the schedule. It is CRUCIAL that your child is set up for success on those days. Please help by ensuring that they are well-rested, on time, and present each day. Be positive and encouraging and try to cut down on the morning chaos, if possible. I understand how challenging that can be as I cart my kids off to different schools before work most mornings. These tests measure how much they have learned and help us to make decisions for instruction in the future. But they are no means, everything. Your child is so much more than a score on a test. We just want to ensure that they have the best chance possible to succeed.
Lastly, as always, please reach out if you have any questions, suggestions, concerns, or you simply want to chat. Your input matters. Speaking of input... Can you please take a moment to take the survey that is linked below. This goes out each year and is a valuable gauge for us to ensure that your family's needs are being met. Your voice matters and the more information that we gather, the better we understand you, which will ultimately inform our decision making in the future.
Thank you for all that you do to partner with us to support the growth of your babies!

Attendance Policy
Chippewa Valley Schools has developed an Attendance Policy that all buildings must follow:
· Students who arrive at school after the posted start time (8:55) will be marked tardy.
· Students who arrive 90 minutes after the start time will be marked absent for 1/2 day.
· Students who leave school 90 minutes prior to dismissal will be marked absent for 1/2 day.
· Students who leave prior to dismissal (3:39) will be marked as parent withdrawal.
Any student who is absent for 10 school days will receive a letter. A doctor’s note is required between the 10th and 15th absence. If no doctor’s note is provided after the 15th absence, the county truancy officer will be contacted.
As a general rule of thumb, if your child sees a doctor (dentist, orthodontist, or other medical professional) please request a doctor's note and submit that to the office, even before your child reaches 10 absences.
If you are struggling with something that is making it difficult to get your child to school, please give us a call and we can work to support you.
SACC Information ⌚
SACC (School Age Child Care)
PTO (Parent Teacher Organization)
Clinton Valley's PTO is a parent group, and we need YOU! PTO helps our school fundraise so that we are able to hold many fun-filled events for the students and their families throughout the school year. As a member of our PTO, you can help be part of the decision-making process to plan events, what fundraisers to do, and more. It’s a great way to meet other parents and network with one another.
Meetings will be held at 6:30 pm in Clinton Valley's cafeteria. Please consider coming to the meeting so that we can continue to have fun experiences for your family here at school.
Look for more information on future meetings. Thank you!
