Romeo and Juliet

Who's to Blame?
Friar Laurence is the one that is responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s death. It is Friar Laurence’s fault because he married Romeo and Juliet in the first place, and he shouldn’t have sent an old man on a donkey to tell Romeo of the plan. When Romeo came to Friar to marry him and Juliet the Friar should’ve turned him down because he’s supposed to be the mature one that stops this whole mess from getting worse. Friar didn’t stop them because he thought, “This marriage may be lucky enough to turn the hatred between your families into pure love” (2.3.91-92). If Friar really thought about this more he would have realized that such a thing would only make everything worse, and maybe Romeo and Juliet would have lived longer lives. When Friar sent word to Romeo about the plan he should’ve made sure it was delivered much faster. Friar sent “But he which bore my letter, Friar John, Was stayed by accident, and yesternight Returned my letter back” (5.3.249-251). If Friar chose someone who could’ve delivered the letter with much more haste then Romeo may have not killed himself. As you can see Friar Laurence is the one to blame for not being the mature one and for not sending someone who is faster.
