The CKH Leadworthy Character Word for MARCH is COURAGE.
What is COURAGE?
Courage is the ability and strength to face something that may be difficult or challenging. Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather perseverance in the presence of fear and the willingness to stand up for what is right or to try something new even though it may be uncomfortable or uncertain.
Why focus on COURAGE?
COURAGE encourages engagement. Courage helps students raise their hand, participate, try new things, and voice their opinions.
COURAGE builds self-confidence. Courage is the choice to act. By doing something, students increase their belief in themselves and their ability to do difficult or challenging things.
COURAGE can help reframe a negative. When something does not go as planned or a student gets upset about a mistake or failure, courage can help reframe the event in a positive light.
Our students, who consistently exemplify courage throughout MARCH, are likely to be chosen as the Leadworthy Spotlight Winner for their class. Winners get to have a special lunch with the principals!
Please encourage your child to lead with great character each day!
SUPPORT for PARENTS
Primary Care Triple P: Positive Parenting Program
(This is a one-on-one intervention)
Targeted Population:
Parents of Pre-K through 5th grade students
Parents seeking information about how to address a specific parenting or child behavior issue
The family situation is reasonably stable (i.e. not in the middle of separation/divorce, parent has psychological issues themselves, or the child has major psychological issues that have not yet been addressed)
Families will participate in a few assessments. Based on the outcome of those assessments, the Triple P Team may determine whether this level of intervention will be beneficial for a family. If it is not going to be beneficial, and they recommend a higher level of care, such as family counseling that would involve more intense involvement, the team will make an outside counseling recommendation to the family and let the referring principal know.
Program Objectives:
Increase parents’ confidence in managing common behavior problems and developmental issues
Reducing parents’ use of coercive and punitive methods of disciplining children (focusing on pre-teaching desired behaviors, rather than just reacting to a bad behavior)
Improving parents’ communication and reducing parental stress
IF you are interested, please reach out to Mrs. Williams (Principal) or Ms. Dockery (Counselor), and they will get your information submitted to the team. Thank you!

~P/T Conferences
Please ensure your attendance at HCE's Parent/Teacher Conferences on March 14th. If you don't know your scheduled time, please reach out to your child's teacher. We need and want you there! ❤️
~School-Home-School Communication
Parents, please make sure you are checking your student's folder, behavior sheet, graded papers, etc. each night. It is impossible for teachers to make a phone call to every parent daily, so we heavily rely on written correspondence to serve as our primary, most vital, form of communication from school to home, and visa versa. If you are not checking your child's folder/papers and providing your signature that confirms you've done so, the line of communication gets disconnected, which is something we cannot afford to do. It takes a village, as you've heard countless times before, to raise and guide our children, and as the adults in their lives, we must band together to make sure we do all within our power to help and support them. I am so thankful for those who are continually checking folders and ROOMS messages/emails and providing feedback and support. For those who are not, I ask that you make every effort to do so moving forward. Your support is essential in your child's overall success and achievement.THANK YOU SO MUCH!
~Student Behavior
Parents, please encourage students to be EXCEL Leaders and to Serve Like a Patriot. Serving Like a Patriot requires them to adhere to the expectations outlined within our school-wide behavior matrix, as well as what is considered to be positive, desirable behavior. Some of our students are having a difficult time right now, so if you have received notification specifically regarding your child's behavior, please support us by reinforcing positive behavior in your home. It is imperative for students to understand that there are consequences to their behavior, so we want to encourage them to behave in ways that keep them out of trouble. Children will always rise to the level of expectations we set for them. Let's set the expectations high and help them RISE!
THANK YOU for your continued support!

ATTENDANCE Matters!
Parents, we need YOU! Our elementary students cannot drive themselves to school, so it is up to you to make sure students are getting up on time, leaving the house on time, and arriving to school on time. They cannot do it without YOU. Please help our students be their BEST by helping them to start their day off right. Being on time sets the tone for a GREAT day! THANK YOU!❤️
Counselor Connection
- One of the standards in the BSD Comprehensive Counseling Plan is to educate students about living healthy and the effects of nicotine. HCES partners with Dawson Educational Co-Op and Arkansas Department of Health to present the age-appropriate Coral's Reef program to students. The goal of the Coral Reef program is to reach children with prevention and educational information at an early age to prevent initiation into tobacco and nicotine use as they get older.
- Project Prevent contests are open for 2024.
MARCH Parent Guidance Newsletter
- "Happy Kids Are Healthy Kids"
Nurse's News
- Please encourage your student to wash his/her hands thoroughly, use a kleenex or tissue to clean his/her nose, etc. We have so many illnesses going around, and students need to know how to help lessen the spread.
- If you have received a "failed vision" letter from me, I have vision vouchers available. Please let me know if you need assistance.
- Make sure students come to school with coats and are appropriately dressed for the weather.
- Please remember that if your child is sick, do not send them to school.
- If they are running a fever of 100.0 or greater, they have to be fever free for 24 hours (without medication) prior to returning to school.
- Also, if your child is vomiting, keep them home for 24 hours until vomiting has stopped, also without medication.
- Please send extra clothes in your child's backpack to bring to school in case of an accident.
- Encourage your child to not share combs, hats, scarfs, headbands, or coats with other students for hygiene reasons.
