DECLARATION OF INDEPENDECEIn the words of Thomas Jefferson, the Declaration of Independence was intended to place before mankind the common sense of the matter in terms so plain and simple as to command their agreement.BILL OF RIGHTSThe Bill of Rights addresses primary issues, such as: Prohibition of any law biased towards establishment of religion;Right to arms, within federal territory;Prohibition of any act that deprives life, liberty and/or property, illegally;Elimination of capital, punitive action, after an impartial grand jury indictment;Reservation of non-federal government powers with regards to citizenry.AMERICAN REVOLUTION1. The American Revolution, also known as the Revolutionary War, began in 1775.2. British soldiers and American patriots started the war with battles at Lexington and Concord, Massachusetts.3. Colonists in America wanted independence from England.4. The British government attempted to pass some laws, enforce several taxes, and increase more control over the colonies. The colonies strongly objected to these laws and taxes. They wanted England to have no control over them.5. For ten years before the war actually started, there was a lot of tension between England and the colonies.EMANCIPATION PROCLAMATIONThe main purpose of the proclamation was to restore peace and Union control amidst the civil war. This granted freedom to thousands of slaves and was interpreted as a commitment to the cause. Till the Emancipation Proclamation, the Confederacy had used the slaves to cater to war time effort. They formed the spine of the Confederacy by handling root requirements like sewing uniforms, catering, utility repairs, farm and factory work and common labor. The declaration reversed the strength on the two warring sides and defined the outcome of the struggle.
