RCE Media Matters
2nd Quarter Report
We have had a very busy 2nd 9 weeks! We had an author visit, book fair, Winter Programs, read alouds, and our Fireflies Reading Challenge has begun!
2nd Quarter Circulations
Everybody books: 1,970 check outs (31.23%)
Biographies: 140 check outs (2.22%)
Nonfiction: 2,320 check outs (36.77%)
Fiction: 1,529 check outs (24.24%)
Teacher Resources: 350 check outs (5.54%)
Total: 6,309 check outs (100%)
Our circulation for the same dates last year were higher by 1,554 checkouts. (my first year as librarian at RCES) We had less whole class visits in the 2nd quarter than we had last year. I will work on bringing more classes in during the 3rd quarter to see if this remedies our drop in circulation numbers.
Book Tastings & Read Alouds
In November, I did a book tasting of nonfiction titles for all 4th grade students. I have a template that I used to create a sheet for them to write down what they liked and learned from 3-4 different nonfiction titles. The teachers were pleased and the students enjoyed themselves.
November/December: 11 (to prepare for Family Reading Night)
January: 12 (through January 18th)
This brings my total up to 41 ending on January 18th. I have 16 more scheduled before January is over to reach 57.

2nd Grade Science
Right now we are learning about the 6 Animal Classifications. Each week we tackle a different one and when we are done with the basics, each pair of students will pick an animal to do research on. They will create green screen movies about their animals as their way of sharing what they learned with each other. They are excited to get started and I can't wait to see what they come up with.
