Parent Leadership Opportunities for 24/25 School Year
We are thinking about next year. A great way to get involved is to join one of these committees! Please consider volunteering or nominating a friend!
Please add yourself to one of these groups or nominate a neighbor by Monday April 1st
School Accountability Committee
For our School Accountability Committee, we have a parent member and a community member (not associated with the school via a staff member or student) seat available for next year. If you are interested or know someone who would be good for one of these roles please fill out the form linked here: 2024-25 SAC Nomination Form. This committee meets regularly to provide me with feedback and guidance on school improvement efforts.
Pine Lane Educational Alliance
Our Pine Lane Educational Alliance is a group that partners with the school to support our efforts through coordinating community events and fundraising. Over the past few years, they have helped us be able to lay turf on the playground at south and purchase new tractors for snow removal. They also run the following events: Kindie Yahoo/Boohoo, Kids Night Out, Fall Festival, Winterfest, and Bear Crawl. Our executive board will be looking to fill two board positions for next year, Treasurer and Secretary. If you are interested or know someone who would be good for one of these roles please fill out the form linked here: 2024-25 PLEA Nomination Form.
Your Feedback Matters - Please complete survey by Monday April 1st!
Thank you to those who have already completed our 2023-24 Feedback Survey. We would like to have as accurate data as possible and ensure that your experience is reflected so that we can make adjustments and improvements. We currently have 63 submissions and would like over 200. Please complete the following survey for each of your children. Our School Accountability Committee will be reviewing this data at our next meeting on May 15th. We welcome all of you to join us that evening.

CMAS - Starts in April
The CMAS testing is approaching quickly. For our first-timers, CMAS is a series of assessments that students from grades 3-6 (and beyond) will take each year, typically in April. Our 5th-grade students will start with Science CMAS. They will test from April 8th - April 10th. Students from grades 3-6 will take the ELA and Math CMAS from April 16th - April 18th.
Punctuality is always important, but it is especially crucial during this period. We will start testing soon after arrival, so it’s essential that your student(s) arrive at school on time. No one will be admitted into their classroom after the testing session starts, and they will have to complete the missed session during a make-up session.
To ensure your child performs at their best, we recommend they get a good night’s sleep and eat a healthy breakfast each morning. If possible, we ask that all phones, AirPods, Smartwatches, etc., be left at home during testing, as they will be powered down and collected during all testing sessions.
Please refer to the link for more information about CMAS and the testing schedule. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact Katie Roberts: kroberts3@dcsdk12.org

6th Grade Families
Continuation Ceremony
We are excited to announce that we are planning something new this year to make the transition from Pine Lane to seventh grade a memorable and special occasion for our sixth-grade students.
This year, we will host a Continuation Ceremony for our sixth-grade students. This event is scheduled for Tuesday, May 21, from 6:30 to 7:30-ish PM. The purpose of this ceremony is to celebrate the students’ journey through Pine Lane and to mark their progression to the next stage of their educational journey.
The venue for this event will be Sierra Middle School, which is significant as it is where many of our students will continue their education as seventh and eighth graders.
To ensure that we can accommodate everyone comfortably, we are trying to get an estimate of the number of students and their accompanying adults who will be attending the Continuation Ceremony. Please fill out this form to confirm or decline your child's/families attendance.
We appreciate your cooperation and look forward to celebrating this important milestone. Thank you very much!
Community/DCSD Updates
SMS is Hosting the College Funding Coach
Dear Sierra Middle School Feeder Area Parents and Guardians,
We have been working hard to provide college resources for your family. It is never too early to begin planning for your student's future education. I am excited to announce that Sierra Middle School is hosting the College Funding Coach on Tuesday, April 16th from 6:00-7:30pm for a web workshop. This event is for any family wanting to learn how to pay for college (Preschool - High School).
The College Funding Coach was founded in 2002 to help families better understand the complex strategies for paying for college and making higher education more affordable. Mark DeBord, from The College Funding Coach, is on a mission to help Colorado families pay for their children’s education. This interactive workshop, Little-Known Secrets of Paying for College, teaches parents the rules of the game when it comes to paying for your child’s education.
This is a free educational web event. Please register by clicking HERE or on the flyer attached to this email.
