Jules wears the teacher mantle with ease. always inclusive and encouraging to all students to be the best they can be.
Jules will be missed here at Inglewood Primary School. Thank you Jules, we wish you all the very best as you take some time to spend with your family in 2019.
Final thoughts for 2018
Kia ora whanau
Kei nga maunga, kei nga awa, o nga hau e whā, Tenā koutou, tenā koutou, tenā tātou katoa
As the year draws to a close I would like to sincerely thank our families for contributing to our Inglewood Primary School community.
Together with the contribution of our dedicated Board of Trustees, Parent Link Team and School Staff we have a great recipe for success. I am continually overwhelmed by your outstanding commitment to our community.
Thank you to the tremendous Parent Link Team, some of whom are leaving us at the next AGM as their children are heading to High School 2019. We will formally thank these people at that time.
Thank you to the many, many people who assisted to make our 2018 Production of Moni's Marvellous Message fabulous. We have personally acknowledged these people before, however thank you again.
We have had a huge couple of years with our building projects and it has been nice to have a rest this year. We are delighted with the new turf in the Junior area (Huge thank you to the Parent Link Teams over the years) and the beginning of the flat track around the back field.
Thank you to the Advanced Mountain Bike Team of Y8s who have been working away developing this asset in our nature trail. We are also very thankful to Aaron George, Ray Smillie and John Harland who have been involved with the clearing of our fence line in readiness for a ‘beginner mountain bike track’ which will be nicely planted with fruit and native trees along the back boundary.
We begin the final project of demolishing two more blocks and then establishing two new classroom hubs. There will be renovations beginning in the toilets near the hall, the canteen area, the staff toilets, the cover over Puke Haupapa, a new Swimming Pool roof, a new area for our Herbert Trust Room (in the Dell hopefully) and finally after the temporary classrooms are taken out, the driveway will be upgraded (yay) We are looking forward to the final projects to be undertaken and completed by the beginning of Term 2
We have Mrs Helen Carswell, Mr Matt Sigurdsson, Ms Brooke Gibson (sort of) and Mrs Jules Monckton leaving us this year,
Helen has won a position at St Joseph’s New Plymouth, where she will be a tremendous asset to the team and community there.
Matt and his family are off on an adventure to Invercargill to be nearer to Kendall’s family. We wish them well and all the best for the future.
Brooke is taking a break from fulltime teaching, however will be with us for one day a week as an Arts Specialist Teacher and,
Jules is leaving IPS after beginning her craft as a teacher and leader, to spend more time with her family.
We wish these staff and their families all the very best and thank them for the tremendous time and commitment they have shown to Inglewood Primary School Community.
We are welcoming Mel Zimmerman, Marcelle Messenger, Emma Burleigh, and we are currently advertising for two full time teachers, one of which is due to roll growth, which is fantastic. We have had some fabulous applications and will be announcing these in the new year, once finalised.
To the year 8s who are heading off to High School, many of them have been with us from the age of 5, I wish you all the best.
I ask you to never give up. Never give up on dreams, never give up on people, never give up the fight. I think too often we forget this.
Our year 8 group has contributed so much to our school over the years and indeed over the entire year, this year. They are a group of students who have set the tone for the school and have lead the way in learning and in achievements on many fronts, academic, sporting, leadership and cultural. They have been real ambassadors for our school; they have exhibited all the REACH values time and time again.
I want to thank them and wish them all the best for the future.
Our community’s strength is built on the contribution of families; for every word or praise or constructive feedback you have offered, for every event you have attended, for every parent meeting, whanau hui you have attended, for every small or large thing you have done THANK YOU. Our Inglewood Primary warm and welcoming atmosphere is the result of families working together.
I will leave you with a piece of writing, which was shared with me.
High Places
Sometimes we need to go to the balcony view.
Sometimes we just get too close.
Too involved. Too engaged. Too enmeshed. Entangled.
It could be at work. A relationship. A project you are leading. A goal you are pursuing. And you need to step away.
You need to create some space. You need a new perspective. A fresh look. Fresh eyes.
And at times like this it can be useful to step onto the balcony.
The balcony is a high place away from action. It overlooks what is going on. And, generally you are the only person up there. Getting some fresh air. Getting some fresh perspective.
For from the balcony you will see the big picture. You will see all the players, All the moving pieces.
And as you disengage from being ‘up close and personal’ and move to the balcony view you will notice new things.
You will see things in a fresh light. You will even see yourself and notice some of the errors you have been making.
And so you can step down from the balcony.
Back into the action (because you cannot live on the balcony). Back into the thick of it. Back into the midst of it.
But now with fresh perspective. New insights. Clear direction.
Ready to go

2019 Term dates
We are starting Friday 1 February with our Learning Partnership Day. We held this earlier this year and it was a huge success with positive feedback from families.
We ask that you go on to a link we will share with you Tuesday 18 December, once the 2019 classes are announced on Monday 17.
From the link you will be able to book a time to meet with your child's teacher on the Fri.
We are very thankful to the parents and families who can accommodate coming to an interview and then taking their child home to allow all teachers the day to meet with their student, families separately. If you do require your child to be at school for the day, please let us know.
Week 2 starts Monday 4 February where all students will be together with their respective teachers. Don;t forget that Waitangi Day is Wednesday of that week, and that is a Public Holiday.
Please see below for the term dates - all families will each receive a magnet for their fridge, courtesy of our wonderful Parent Link Team -.
