French Exchange Students from La Salle in Avignon France
On April 25th, we said “bienvenue” to 17 grade 9 &10 students and 2 teachers from La Salle Avignon, France as they arrived for their two-week exchange with students from La Salle Kingston. They were excited to practice their English and learn more about Canadian culture, geography, and history. The teachers at our school provided the students with some fun workshops in hospitality, construction, graphic design, art, indigenous history and phys. ed. The group also visited Niagara Falls, Toronto, and Montreal. The French students had an enriching experience living with a host family who also provided them with unique experiences in the area. On May 19th, our grade 9 and 10 students will be traveling to Avignon for their part of the exchange. It will be their turn to see how their French peers live and to get a taste of the language, culture, geography, and history in Avignon. We are looking forward to hearing about their journey when they return on June 1st. We wish them “un bon voyage.”

Gender Affirming Assistance Project
The grassroots collective, Gender Affirming Assistance Project (GAAP), is a community-based group based in the Katarokwi/Kingston region that seeks to support two-spirit, trans, non-binary, and gender diverse community members.
This initiative aims to reduce the barriers for people when accessing gender-affirming care and rooting for anti-oppressive, anti-racist, and intersectional ethics of care. GAAP is working with community members, including students from Queen’s University, to provide two services currently: gender-affirming apparel, and support for name/gender marker changes on identification cards.
Mental Health Support
There are many community organizations, including The Maltby Centre, that offer a variety of resources to support students and families. The Maltby Centre (https://maltbycentre.ca/) provides mental health and autism services to children and youth, and works with clients in schools, homes, and other locations.
Other supports include:
We continue to see many students who struggle to safely and respectively use social media. Please monitor your student's phone usage, especially at night. Many students admit to staying up quite late each night, and therefore coming to school quite tired. Thank you for your vigilance and helping your student get the most out of their day.
School Advisory Council
We remind everyone that we welcome members to join us at each meeting. Our next one is June 6th at 6:30 p.m.
Newly elected council for 2022/23:
