Socktober
Beginning October 4th, the Student Council is collecting women’s, men’s, and children’s socks for our local Valparaiso Community homeless shelters. Last year we collected 400 pairs of socks! Our shelters were extremely grateful, and we want to show how much we care for our community. This year our goal will be 400 socks again. Please bring in new pairs of socks to donate to this great cause. We appreciate everything you do!

Red Ribbon Week
Red Ribbon Week is once again upon us – October 28 – November 1. In keeping with our school theme “Friends Unplugged” this year, we have worked to design our red ribbon events to be collaborative in nature. This year’s theme is “Send a Message. Stay Drug Free.” With Indiana still being in the top 10 for drug usage and overdose, it is our hope that we will clearly send the message to our students to stay drug free. We will be starting the week with pledge cards. As your student brings these pledge cards home, take time to read over the pledge with them and answer any questions they may have. You can make a difference in the choices your child makes.
Watch for the Red Ribbon Week Newsletter that will spell out the activities more as the week approaches. We will be having a couple classroom competitions as well as once again offer an art contest for the students to compete in, if they choose.
From The Clinic
If your child is sick, please keep them home. Here are the guidelines we follow:
* Fever Free for 24 hours, without fever-reducing medication
* Vomit Free for 24 hours
* Diarrhea Free for 24 hours
Please reminder your children to cover their mouths when coughing or sneezing and to wash their hands to help stop the spread of germs.
Cold weather will be here soon. Please make sure to have proper clothing for the weather which includes jackets, gloves, scarves, hats and boots.
From time to time, the nurse's office supplies students with clean clothes, due to puddles at recess, spilled liquids at lunch, toileting accidents, etc... Please remember this clothing needs to be laundered and returned clean within the week.
Parenting: Bedtime
Have you noticed that your child is emotional at times? Inconsistent? Distracted? Demonstrating difficult behaviors? It could be as simple as changing the bedtime routing. Read more in this article:
PTO Box Tops
This is a reminder that Box Tops should be turned in by Thursday, October 10th. You can turn in clipped Box Tops on collection sheets, in an envelope, or a baggie. Scanned Box Tops can be recorded on a collection sheet. Make sure to label anything you turn in with your child's name and teacher.
The classroom that turns in the most Box Tops will win a reward!
