A Home-School Connection
February 5, 2019
Leader in Me Annual Symposium is This Week!
Seven Hills Elementary has so much to be proud of! In August of 2016, we opened our doors as a designated Leader in Me school, and we have continued our journey every year since with the same enthusiasm and commitment from staff, students, and parents. As a Leader in Me School we believe:
- everyone has genius.
- everyone can be a leader.
- change starts with me.
- educators empower students to lead their own learning.
- In developing the whole person.
All of our work, activities, programs, and events are anchored by these beliefs. As we continue to grow as a Leader in Me school, we are committed to making connections between the 7 Habits, leadership skills, goal setting and achievement and how they all apply to school, home, and future success. Our mission is to empower learners to be leaders, and we are so impressed and amazed by the amazing growth in leadership, academic achievement and character through our journey with The Leader in Me!
Part of sustaining the momentum and excitement with The Leader in Me involves staff sharpening the saw through different professional learning opportunities with Franklin Covey. One of the biggest events of the year is the annual Leader in Me Symposium. This year, Symposium will be held in Irving on February 7th and 8th. During this event, attendees gather to listen and share their experiences with The Leader in Me. Part of Symposium includes breakout learning sessions presented by Leader in Me schools and Franklin Covey. Symposium also includes site visits to local Leader in Me schools. On day two of the conference, attendees board buses to other Leader in Me schools to see leadership in action!
We are so proud, honored and positively ECSTATIC to share our BIG NEWS!! Seven Hills applied for some of these honors and we were chosen to share our GREATNESS in the following ways:
- Seven Hills was selected as a Symposium school site visit! On Feb. 8th, we will open our doors to approximately 70 guests... The school tour is an opportunity for our students and staff to showcase all that we have accomplished as a Leader in Me school. This is the third year that Seven Hills has been honored to participate in this way! What can we say, everyone wants to see GREATNESS in action!
- We were selected for student leadership opportunities at Symposium! Two members of out Student Lighthouse Team will deliver opening speeches to kick off the morning and afternoon general sessions. Another Student Lighthouse Team member will participate in a student panel, answering audience questions about their leadership journey. In addition, 4 student leaders will greet guests and assist with registration at the Irving Symposium event!
- Mrs. Blackburn and Mrs. Tindel were selected to present a breakout session for conference attendees! We will be talking about goal setting, student accountability through WIG sessions, and teacher learning.
We hope that you are as excited as we are about our big news! We are looking forward to continuing to represent our school community in such a public and positive way. We know that “GREAT happens here,” and we cannot wait to share the GREATNESS with others!
All students wear their navy Seven Hills "My Adventure Starts Here“ shirt THIS Friday, February 8.

A Friendly Reminder About Arrival and Dismissal Procedures:
Car riders will drop off in the morning and pick up in the afternoon using the back circle drive.
- Students will not be released to parents who walk-up to the back door during dismissal.
- Student leaders and staff will be assisting with morning drop-off in the back. In the morning, please make sure you are pulling all the way up to cone one. This helps us unload 7 cars at the same time, and clears the large drain opening at the end of the circle.
- Seven Hills issued hangtags are required for car rider dismissal. These are available in the front office.
Buses will drop off in the morning and pick up in the afternoon using the front circle drive.
- For bus route information please call or email MV Reliant at Reliant Transportation at 817-698-1287 or transportation@nisdtx.org.
Daycare and Pre-K/PPCD/PACEE (and their siblings) will use the front “L” drive for morning arrival and afternoon dismissal.
Please notify the school of any transportation changes before 2:30 pm. This will help ensure that your student receives the information and makes it home safely.
- If you need to pick your child up early from school, you need to do so before 2:45 pm. There will be no office pickups after 2:45.
Student safety is a priority. Please do not drop students off at school before 7:20 am. Staff and student leaders assisting with arrival in the back circle drive will go inside at 7:40 am and the back doors will be locked. If you arrive after 7:40, please bring your child to the front of the school so they can enter through the front office.

Calling All Volunteers:
We believe that parents and volunteers are a vital part of our success here at Seven Hills Elementary, and we encourage you to be an active participant in your child’s learning. There are many opportunities for you to become involved, and we encourage you to consider joining one of the following volunteer groups:
- PTA
- Watch D.O.G.S.
Each year, volunteers are required to complete an online background check. If you plan to attend a field trip, work in the classroom, help in the library, or any other responsibility that puts you in contact with students, you must complete the application. Background checks from last year will not roll forward. ALL volunteers MUST complete a new form each year. To complete the form: http://www.nisdtx.org/cms/One.aspx?portalId=232201&pageId=1139074
Campus Reminders:
- The doors to the school will open at 7:20 a.m., and students may go either to the cafeteria to eat breakfast or to their classrooms to begin their day. To ensure student safety, please do not drop students off at school before the doors open at 7:20.
- Our school day begins promptly at 7:40 a.m. Students are expected to be present in their classrooms and ready to begin “Habit Huddle” when the 7:40 tardy bell rings. Any student who is not in their classroom, or arrives after the tardy bell, will be counted tardy. Please encourage your child to be proactive and arrive at school on time.
- The safety and security of students, staff, and visitors is a priority. All visitors must sign-in with the front office using the Raptor system to receive a visitor badge. Any visitor without a badge will be redirected to the front office. All new guests will need to scan their ID the first time they visit this year. We appreciate your patience and understanding with this safety measure.
- Please contact the school office if your child will be absent from school. This helps us verify our overall attendance for the day and properly account for all students. When your child returns to school after an absence, please be sure to send a note explaining the reason for the absence.
