Attendance
Did you know that according to D11 policy, when a student arrives after 8:20 am they are marked absent not just tardy?
Encouraging regular school attendance and being on time to school are some of the most powerful ways you can prepare your child for success—both in school and in life. When you make school attendance a priority, you help your child get better grades, develop healthy life habits, avoid dangerous behavior and have a better chance of graduating from high school.
When students are absent for fewer days, their grades and reading skills often improve—even among those students who are struggling in school. Students who attend school regularly also feel more connected to their community, develop important social skills and friendships, and are significantly more likely to graduate from high school, setting them up for a strong future.
But when kids are absent for an average of just two days of school per month—even when the absences are excused– it can have a negative impact. These absences can affect kids as early as Kindergarten.
For example, young elementary school students who miss an average of just two school days per month often have difficulty keeping up with their peers academically and tend to fall behind in reading. But when students are able to read on grade level by the end of third grade, which is when kids transition from learning to read to reading to learn, they are three to four times more likely to graduate high school and attend college, post-graduate, or professional development classes than their peers who struggle with reading.
As a parent, you can prepare your child for a lifetime of success by making regular school attendance a priority.
With Patriot Pride,
Mrs. Ernst – Principal
School Phone Calls
Every now and then, the school or the district will send automated calls to give out important information. If you do not answer the phone, the system will leave a voice message. We ask that you please listen to the entire message before contacting the office inquiring about the call. Most often, you will get all of the info you need from the message and calling the office jams up our phone lines unnecessarily. Thank you for your consideration!
Let's Work Together...
The role of parents in managing children’s educational experiences at home and at school has long been considered critical for children’s success in school. Here at Henry Elementary, we desire to partner with our parents to enable their student’s success. We offer many opportunities for parents to become involved in our PTO, volunteering on a daily, weekly, monthly, or event basis in the school, and supporting our mission with their students at home.
We need your support and reinforcement both at home and here at school. The following list presents expectations that Henry Elementary has for the parent community so that our partnership is effective in doing what’s best for students.
· Treating our faculty and staff with respect – This includes in the Kiss & Go car line & the parking lot during morning drop-off and after school dismissal, in the front office, at athletic events, as well as in emails, on the telephone, and in the classrooms. Our students are held to a high standard in this regard, and it is imperative that they see this character pillar modeled by all the adults in their lives.
· Respecting our rules – Being a part of the Henry School community indicates your commitment to supporting and respecting our rules, policies and procedures. When parents come to our school, we fully expect them to use appropriate language and tone of voice, and do not engage in any activity that could cause a disruption to the learning environment or athletic events they may be observing. We will always treat our parent community with dignity and respect, and we expect the same in return. Cooperative relationships provide the win-win support that all of our students need to be able to focus on their education and wellbeing.
· Keeping up-to-date with our COMMUNICATION –
o Check the school CLASS DOJO (get this app free from the app store and also access it online from your computer or smart phone) for daily announcements.
o Keep CONTACT INFORMATION and preferences up to date in order to receive automated phone calls, email, and/or texts. This includes emergency contact information.
o Check Q Parent Connections and Class Dojo frequently to stay apprised of your student’s grades and behavior record.
o Attend PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES
o Read the school Marquee Sign
o Read the monthly NEWSLETTER thoroughly. This is an important means of communication between the school and the parents. When published, it will be announced on Class Dojo, the school website and sent out via email.
When we work together to achieve excellence in education, everyone wins – the students, the parents, the faculty/staff/administration, the board, and the community.
We look forward to a great partnership with you and your student(s) here at Henry Elementary where Patience, Respect, Integrity, Determination & Excellence are expected!
Kiss & Go Expectations for Parents:
At Henry, safety is always our first priority. We have initiated our Kiss and Go drop off/pick up service to ensure the safety of your children as they arrive and depart from school. Our staff and volunteers will brave all kinds of weather to maintain a safe environment, and we ask that you help us by following these rules:
Morning Kiss & Go drop off
· Be considerate of other drivers entering the Kiss and Go lane; alternate right and left turns into the lane from Lehmberg Blvd.
· * Form a single lane into the right lane of the Yellow Zone
· * Pull forward as far as you can
· * Please do not use cell phones while in the Yellow Zone
· * Have your child ready to exit the car, with his/her coat on and backpack/lunch in hand
· A Henry staff member/volunteer will open the car door to let your child out of the car.
Please keep your child(ren) in the car until the door is opened.
· * Adults should stay in the car
· When you have dropped off your student in the Yellow Zone, you may carefully pull out into the left lane to exit. Use your turn signals to let other drivers know if you will turn left or right onto Lehmberg Blvd.
· Please show respect for the Henry staff and volunteers on duty as well as for other parents by following the rules
· Do not park anywhere in the Kiss and Go lane. If you wish to come into school with your child, park in the south, parent parking lot in an actual parking space and walk your child to the door. Parents must sign in to the front office if they will be going to the child's classroom. You may not park anywhere along the curb in the parent parking lot, even if you are still inside of the vehicle.
· School starts PROMPTLY at 8:00 am. Students who are not IN THE CLASSROOM at 8:00 am are tardy. Students arriving after 8:05 am will need to be signed in by a parent or guardian in the front office to get a pass. Students arriving after 8:20 am are considered ABSENT for the morning session according the District policy.
