April Fun in Grade One
Mrs. Ryberg's 1st Grade News - April 9, 2016
Happy Spring!
It finally feels like Spring with a little rain and some warmer temperatures this week. Please remember that we are only one hour into our day when we go to recess, so jackets are usually a must!
Opportunities in PTA
Right now, PTA is looking ahead to next year and considering leadership for the 2016-2017 school year. If you think you could help, even in a small capacity, please let me know by responding to this email and I will pass on that information!
M A P S!
Students worked on flip books (see picture) after looking at books titled Zoom and Re-Zoom by author Istvan Banyai. At school we are a smaller part of a much much bigger place! Ask your student to see his/her finished product - I did not snap a picture of one to share.

POETRY: Next week begins our poetry unit - what better time than during National Poetry Month? Be on the lookout for our class poetry party where students will share their poems. This will likely be the first week of May.
NEW FOLDERS: Students brought home new daily folders this week. While most of the goodies from class are sent home on Friday, please check folders daily for work and important papers. Also, be sure to record reading each day and use the folder to return reading logs on Friday.
OPEN BOOKS WORKSHOPS
Be on the lookout for a flyer coming about Open Books at Hillcrest STEAM Academy.
There will be 3 different sessions, and families are invited to all sessions. You and your student(s) can attend 1, 2, or all 3 sessions, depending on what fits best into your schedule.
Please RSVP to me (in response to this newsletter), Mrs. Ruckman (bruckman@bsd124.org), or Miss Lynch (clynch@bsd124.org). Snacks and a book will be provided for every child in attendance each evening. It is a great way to build reading skills and practices at home!
