A chill is in the air and books are everywhere!
As the days grow shorter and the cold wind blows stronger take advantage of the winter chill to cuddle up with your little ones and share in a good book. Reading to your child every day is one of the most important things you can do to set your child on the path to independent reading. If your child is already a reader remember the time spent reading together allows you to bolster your child’s growing skills and remind him or her of the joy that is found in books.
You can head to the local library and check out some great wintery reads. Please be aware when choosing books for your child that interest, reading levels and appropriate subject matter vary by grade and age group.:
The Mitten by Jan Brett
The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats
Snowflake Bentley by Jacqueline Briggs Martin
Snow by Uri Shulevitz
Magic Tree House: Winter of the Ice Wizard by Mary Pope Osborne
Snowmen at Night by Caralyn Buehner
Owl Moon by Jane Yolen
Bear Snores On by Karma Wilson
Snow by Cynthia Rylant
No Two Alike by Keith Baker
Winter Bees & Other Poems of the Cold by Joyce Sidman
For a different experience you can listen to popular books read aloud by famous celebrities on Storyline Online or check out a wide variety of fiction and nonfiction texts on BookFlix (login: bfrankps, password: bookflix).
