Superintendent's Memo
Today, within Buffalo Trail Public Schools, we proudly observe International Women's Day, an occasion to celebrate the extraordinary achievements and invaluable contributions of women worldwide. It's a time for our students, staff, and community to honour the strides made towards gender equality and to recognize the ongoing journey towards inclusivity. Let's inspire our students to appreciate the diverse talents and capabilities of the women they know as well as historically. Let's foster an environment where all students feel empowered to pursue their passions and ambitions, regardless of gender. Together, let's commit to nurturing a culture of respect, equality, and support within our schools, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to thrive and succeed. Happy International Women's Day to all!
As Substitute Teacher Appreciation Week approaches next week, BTPS would like to give a big shoutout to the amazing substitutes who keep our classrooms running smoothly. Whether it's filling in for a day or covering an extended absence, these dedicated individuals step into classrooms with grace and enthusiasm, ensuring that the continuity of learning remains uninterrupted even in the absence of the regular teacher. Their flexibility, adaptability, and commitment to student success make them invaluable assets to all of our schools. From managing lesson plans on short notice to fostering a positive learning environment, substitutes play a vital role in the day-to-day operations of schools, and it's only fitting that we take a moment to express our gratitude for their tireless efforts.
Throughout Substitute Teacher Appreciation Week, let us collectively acknowledge and celebrate the invaluable contributions of these remarkable educators who go above and beyond to ensure that every student has the opportunity to thrive academically.
Be well,
Michelle

Board Staff Appreciation
A heartfelt thank you to our Board of Trustees as our BTPS staff enjoyed delicious treats last week on behalf of the Board for Staff Appreciation Week!
Kitscoty Jr/Sr High School
- Bio 30 has been learning about the nervous system and special senses. We completed both a brain and eye dissection these past 2 weeks.
- Foods 7 made potato skins and enjoyed them in a family-style meal.
- Kacey Trainer (pictured with Mrs. Stromberg) performed at the Winspear Center as part of the U of A Honour Band Workshop Weekend. She spent three full days in the city working with other musicians from around the province and playing some very high level music.
- Our junior curlers had an awesome day at BTPS Curling finals in Wainwright on Tuesday February 13. Team Kuntz finished 4th and Team Hozack brought home Silver.
J.R. Robson School
A big snowfall has made it possible to reschedule our ski trip to Table Mountain, again, depending on the weather. It was to take place this past November, but due to a lack of snow, it was canceled due to the venue being fully booked, but a spot became available for the end of March. Students are excited to spend the day snowboarding or skiing.
Here, Grade 8 Outdoor Education students were learning about an alternative fire option, the Swedish Torch, over which they later cooked grilled cheese sandwiches.
Junior High Girls Team: Emma, Alexis, Elliott, Harper, Janell. They won the Highway 16 Banner and went on to finals in Wainwright and earned Bronze. Way to go girls!
A great shot of Shawn H. taking a great shot at a Senior Boys Basketball game.
Several students contributed some art to an exhibit that the Vermilion Public Library featured. Numerous people created these tiny canvas creations
Senior Mixed Curling Team: Nick, Samara, Robbie, and Britney
Pink Shirt Day! Many students and staff participated in this annual event.

Flourishing Stories - Rural Caucus of Alberta School Boards
The Board of Buffalo Trail Public Schools is a member of the Rural Caucus of Alberta School Boards. On the RCASB website it showcases ‘Flourishing Stories” from schools.
This month, BTPS was proud to showcase the “Passion Projects Powering Minds” at Delnorte School and the Green Certificate “Poultry Program” at Dewberry School.
Dewberry School Green Certificate Poultry Program: Students are transforming a shed into a high-tech egg-laying facility, gaining hands-on skills for the agriculture industry.
Passion Projects Powering Minds at Delnorte School: Students are diving into sustainable energy projects like building solar-powered chargers and creating a net-zero greenhouse. Across grades 7-12, students are applying skills from various subjects to tackle real-world challenges and passions, from 3D printing to composting.

How Can I Fall Asleep Faster and Stay Asleep
Through our Health and Wellness Champions over the last few years, BTPS has previously promoted the work of Dr. Greg Wells. In his latest blog, "How Can I Fall Asleep Faster and Stay Asleep?" he delves into the critical role of sleep in maintaining brain health, inspired by a personal family health scare. Addressing common sleep-related queries from readers, Dr. Wells offers practical advice for improving sleep quality.
As we move into longer days and the anticipation of spring, now is a great time to take a few minutes to read his blog and reflect on your own sleep habits.
