Interims
There was a great question about grades dropping and communication from the school/ teachers at the coffee on Monday. We do not send interims out in the mail due to Parent/StudentVUE, so the expectation is to login this week and gauge where your students will need to focus the final weeks of the year. Communication will only be successful if we make efforts on all sides- from the school, the parents, and most importantly, the students. Let's start the process today. Office hours still continue during SOLs.
This is our time to finish strong.
We will be our best together.

Reminder- We will no longer be having advisory on Mondays.
SOL Testing Information
SOL testing is just around the corner. Students should plan to arrive around 8:15 on testing days and should bring their charged Chromebook, Chromebook charger, water bottle, and mask.
May 17 - Science 8
May 24 - Math 6/7/8/Algebra/Geometry/Algebra II
Parents of bus riders should have received an email from Mr. Seipt on Thursday with bus information. Note: SOL Testing bus runs are different from Tuesday-Friday bus runs. If you have questions about transportation, please email Mr. Seipt directly.
No further action is required from families that have already chosen to opt out of SOL testing (parent refusal). If you have changed your mind and would like to choose the parent refusal option for one or more SOL tests, please email Mr. Seipt at mitchell.seipt@lcps.org.
Concurrent Learning
We continue to have a number of successes with student health mitigation in the building since we went to 4 days per week. We also continue to try to equitably manage distant and in-person learners. I have not hear too much since we started back about distant learners feeling neglected. I did see an anonymous report this week from a distant learner. I am hoping that we continue to keep the lines of communication open and ask our teachers for support if we are feeling like one group is having a difficult experience compared to another.
I addressed concurrent learning, next year's plan, parent questions, and closing out the year in last Monday's parent coffee. You are welcome to check it out at Parent Coffee Recording.

Best Piece of Advice for Successful Transition to High School
Parents of 8th graders, as your Thunderbolt becomes a Titan this summer, there is ONE piece of advice for a successful transition that the staff at Dominion would offer: get your student involved in an extra-curricular activity immediately as they start ninth grade. The very best way to do this is for your student to become part of an athletic team or the marching band, both of which will get their start on August 2nd, three weeks prior to the start of school. Invariably, students who are involved in these fall activities get a substantial head start on their adjustment to high school life.
In light of the pandemic, student engagement is more important than ever before. Information about athletic programs and the marching band will become available in the weeks and months to come on www.dominionhigh.com. Students may also get involved right away by joining debate, auditioning for our fall play, or trying out for the esports or dance teams, shortly after the start of school. We encourage you to start planning with your Titan for immediately engagement in Dominion’s rich tapestry of extra-curricular opportunities.
Sincerely,
John Brewer
