Military Service Honor Cords
Graduates - if you are entering the military after graduation, be sure to RSVP to attend the Military Service Honor Cord Ceremony, hosted by VFW Post 8696. At this ceremony on April 23 at 6PM all of our students who are entering the military after graduation will receive their honor cord to wear at the MHS graduation ceremony.
Student Speakers at Graduation
Each year the administration selects several graduates to speak at the graduation ceremony. The purpose of this tradition is to add student voice to the graduation ceremony and to showcase a variety of student experiences from Matanzas High School. Any graduating senior from the class of 2024 is eligible to submit a speech for consideration. The best speeches showcase the speaker’s unique personality and voice in sharing an inspirational message or story with your graduating peers.
Speeches should be 500-1000 words in length (approximately 3-4 minutes long when read aloud).
To be considered, a printed out hard copy of your speech must be submitted to Ms. Marie Drumm in the front office by 3:00PM on Friday, April 12th, 2024.
Speeches will be reviewed by administration and students will be notified the week of April 29th if their speech was selected.
Selected speakers must be available for practice sessions between May 8th and May 22nd and are required to attend speech practice at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach on May 21st at 8:30AM (transportation will be provided if needed).
If you have any questions about the graduation speech requirements, please contact Coach Roe at 386-447-1575 ext. 8237 or stop by his classroom (6-134) during school hours.
