As our SEL lessons have been about personal safety — saying no to unsafe situations, talking to adults before leaving, and what to do if a safety rule gets broken – we also wanted to send out the home alone guidelines for the state of Minnesota. This would be a great time to chat with your students about expectations if they are home alone and make sure that your family has a safety plan in place.
1. Age 7 & under: Never left alone
2. Age 8-10: Not left alone for more than 3 hours, depending on child
3. Age 11-13: Not left alone for more than 12 hours, depending on child
4. Age 14 -15: Not left alone for more than 24 hours, depending on child
5. Age 16-17: may be left alone for more than 24 hours with a plan in place concerning how to respond in an emergency.
Children must be 11 years old to babysit younger children.
Is the child healthy, safe, warm, well fed, and does he/she know what to do in an
emergency? Does he know where his care-taking adult is, how to reach them and when
that person will be home?
Home Alone Check List
1. Will your child be willing and able to reach you by phone?
2. Does your child have a handicap, health, or mental health problem that makes adult supervision necessary?
3. Will the child be in charge of younger children?
4. Can your child communicate with adults?
5. Can your child solve problems?
6. Can your child lock and unlock doors to your home?
7. Does your child know what to do in an emergency, when to call a parent or when to call 911?
8. Is there a dependable adult nearby that your child can and will turn to in an emergency?
9. How long will your child be left alone? Is that every day?
10. Can your child complete daily tasks?
11. Is your child’s behavior inappropriate or aggressive?
12. Does your child play with fire or dangerous chemicals?
13. Will your child follow your instructions, such as not using the stove or sharp knives, tools, not letting strangers into the house for any reason, not having friends over when they are alone?
14. Do you keep guns and other weapons in your home? Are they locked in a safe place? Do you have the key with you?

We're excited to announce that Mora School will be hosting the Minnesota School Sealant Program on April 12th, providing your child with the opportunity to receive essential preventive dental services right here at school. A licensed dental professional will be on-site to offer sealants, cleanings, and fluoride varnishes to students from PreK to 12th grade.
To ensure your child can benefit from these services, we kindly ask you to complete and return the consent form that was sent home via both email and paper copy. Simply fill in your child's information and send it back to school at your earliest convenience.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter, and we look forward to helping your child maintain a healthy smile!
It’s that time of year still! Here at the Mora Public Schools, we are still seeing tons of common school-age illnesses. So parents, please be mindful when sending your student to school. Always try to make sure they are feeling their best, so they can be present and ready to learn for the day. Most of the school-age illnesses are harmless, but they can still spread like rapid fire. Some of those common illnesses seen include: common cold, stomach flu, strep throat, pink eye and influenza, just to name a few. We do have covid tests in the health office if needed. We do ask that you keep your student home for at least 24 hours for any illnesses that include fever over 100.0, vomiting and diarrhea. If you ever have any questions, or are wanting any more information please feel free to reach out to the health office staff. The best way to prevent illnesses from spreading is by washing your hands!!
Thank you so much for all you do and helping to keep our students happy and healthy!

Per the new Minnesota Legislature that went into effect January 2024 we have provided menstrual products in our 4th-12th grade bathrooms. The menstrual products have been in our schools restrooms for a little over a month now and we have noticed some misuse of these products; being opened and just tossed on the ground/in the garbage. We are hopeful the newness of the products in the bathroom wears off; we have already seen improvement since the beginning of the year. Please talk with your student about respecting the products so our bathrooms can stay clean and our custodians don't have to do the extra work from the cleanup. Thank you for everything you do!
Clothes needed!
The health office is also in need of donations of pants for boys and girls. You can drop donations off at the Mora Elementary Office.
