Growing Successful Learners - Whakatipu Mātauranga
Matt's Message
Apologies for not sending a newsletter last week, our normal fortnight routine. I was fortunate to attend an Outward Bound Leadership Intensive for the week, an amazing opportunity and learning for me.
The school has been a hive of activity over the last three weeks, from trips to the Art Gallery, Beach Ed, Triathlon, our first ever colour run and the Year 5&6 tamariki on a camp up at Ngatuhoa Lodge. It's been all go.
With only two days this week to go and a short week next week with Easter around the corner, we have a number of other things happening that I would like to outline and draw your attention to so you are all aware.
Key Information for Parents in this email includes.
1. Teachers Paid Union Meeting
2. Easter Holiday Dates for Schools - Different to other businesses
3. Tauranga City Council Parking Wardens
4. Easter Mufti Day
5. Easter Disco
6. Math-a-Thon Fundraiser
Please take the time to read each section.

Teachers Paid Union Meeting
Legally, we are required to support our teachers who are part of the NEZI Teachers Union to attend paid union meetings when they are called. We have been notified that this meeting will be next Tuesday, March 26th. The school will remain open for those children whose parents cannot pick them up at the beginning of lunch—12:40pm.
For parents needing their children supervised, please fill out the following form so that we know who will stay at school. If you cannot collect your child early, a skeleton staff will be at school to supervise a small number of children.
If your children are going to be collected at 12:40pm or if they are going to walk or bike home, you do not need to complete any forms.
We are disappointed as a school that the meetings for our area have been scheduled in what is already a short week. However, this is beyond our control.
Easter Holiday Dates for Schools
Easter is only around the corner, and because it falls earlier than usual, it falls during Term One instead of starting the term one holidays.
PLEASE NOTE:
Easter Holidays for ALL SCHOOLS include Tuesday, April 2nd as a Holiday.
This means all schools are closed for instruction from Friday, March 29th - to Tuesday, April 2nd. School will reopen on Wednesday, April 3rd.
TCC Parking Wardens
As part of our continued efforts to improve traffic safety at pick-up time, we have been told that TCC will soon send wardens to our community for continued education. At this point, they do not intend to ticket people.
Easter Mufti Day
Next Wednesday is an Easter Mufti Dress-up day. Children can come dressed in Easter-themed clothes or just their normal choice of clothes.
We will support St Vincent de Paul on this day and would prefer a donation of non-perishable food for this day. If this is not possible, then a gold coin donation will be collected, with the profit sent to St Vincent de Paul.
Easter Disco
Following on from the Easter Mufti Day, our Term One Easter Disco will also be held on Wednesday next week.
Year 0/2 - 3:15pm - 4:00pm
Year 3/4 - 4:15pm - 5:15pm
Year 5/6 - 5:30pm - 6:30pm
The disco will be a gold coin donation at the door for entry.
Math-a-Thon Fundraiser
Pāpāmoa Primary Math-a-thon - Online Sponsored Fundraiser
Love maths? What does the Pāpāmoa Primary Math-a-thon plus your generosity equal?
Our students are seeking online sponsorship to raise funds for a second basket swing, next to the senior playground; the first swing in the junior area has been so popular, this addition will be loved by the students.
To do this our students will be raising their mathematics game, to build their numerical skills, and show how far they have come with the kind of multiplication that makes our school a better place.
It will certainly be a challenge and some fun between our Pou.
We at Pāpāmoa Primary School want our school to be a better place, and fundraising plays a massive part of this. And what better way to raise funds than by celebrating our maths skills? By supporting this fundraiser, you are acknowledging the skills and hard work of our students, and making the school a better place for many years to come.
How will this fundraiser work? This year we have partnered with online fundraising company Go Raise It. Collecting sponsorship online makes it super easy for everyone - no more door knocking, your child can collect more donations from further afield (friends & family living overseas, work colleagues etc) and no need to worry about handling cash!
How do I sign my child up to fundraise online? Each child can sign up for their very own fundraising web page to send out to collect online sponsorship from anyone, anywhere!
Keep an eye out for more details on our social media and your child's bag in the very near future!
Kiwican News
Kia Ora from the Kiwi Can team
In term one we have been focusing on positive relationships/whakawhanaugatanga. The first two weeks we focused on fairness and fair play, which we learnt to set and follow rules correctly, share and include others. We played activity’s such as cone hunt, ring toss, and rob the nest to demonstrate this value.
The next topic we introduced was leadership/rangatiratanga. We have been learning to listen to everyone ideas and giving everyone time to have a go. The activities that we played to demonstrate this was make a shape and guess who is missing.

Please include your child’s name, room and reason for absence.
If your child arrives at school after 8.40am they are late. Please ensure they sign in at the office before going to class. Thank you.
As part of our School-Links communication system, an automated text message will go out to all unexplained absences. This number is a reply once only.
While we understand that families sometimes need to take time away from school, it is essential that we as a school are notified.
Any absence longer than 20 school days will need to be approved in advance by the school principal. You can do this by sending an email to papamoaprimary@papamoa.school.nz explaining the reason for your child's absence and the dates they will be away. If your child is absent for longer than 20 school days the MOE instructs us to remove a child from our school roll. If you live outside of our school zone there is no guarantee that your child will be able to re-enrol at Pāpāmoa Primary School. It's important to keep communication open between us. If you have any questions or concerns about this process, please feel free to reach out to us.
Thank you for your cooperation and support in your child's education.

When you receive this notification, please contact the team to update any contact details, confirm medical details or renew permissions for examination and dental x-rays.
