Coyotes Boys Lacrosse Team
The 2019 lacrosse season opened on Tuesday night and did so in dramatic fashion with an exciting OT victory against a division rival. There were key stops and aggressive defensive plays, with Spencer Jacobson leading the way with 4 key ground balls and another 4 CTOs. The Yotes were able to get key contribution from a number of players on the offensive side, with 2 goals and 2 assists from Ty Bates, 2 goals from Austin Campbell, 1 goal and 1 assist from Matt Schafer, plus goals from Liam Ganem, Nate McMullen, Ashton Schmitz and Tyler Somers. But all would be for not if it wasn't for the brick wall that made save after save to keep the Yotes within striking distance early in the game, then ensured the game would go to extra time before claiming victory. Senior McCormick Snow was a key factor to help the Yotes get that key first victory and look forward to their first road game against Pinnacle this Friday night.
If you are looking for some exciting action this spring, be sure to check out the schedule, which includes another 6 games at CVHS stadium. *Note, the April 13th game is currently being rescheduled to not conflict with Prom.

Oh Canada! The land of.... Poutine!
French level 1 students have been studying the province of Quebec, Canada - a French speaking region of North America. They have learned about the history (Jacques Cartier, Samuel de Champlain, the French-Indian War), the music (accordions!), major monuments and tourist attractions (the Insectarium and the funiculaire) and especially the food! Students made favorite food items like tourtiere and maple sugar pie to bring to class and share. But on Tuesday, February 19th, they sampled the national fast food of Canada thanks to a visit from the Great American Poutine Company Food Truck. With the help and permission of the amazing CVHS Food Services Department, students were able to watch poutine (french fries smothered in gravy, cheese curds and a variety of other topping choices) be made - and then were able to buy their own favorites. Students agreed that poutine was highly addicting, incredibly filling and totally tasty! Thank you Great American Poutine Company!

Library Information
Young Adult author, Angie Thomas, currently has her two novels in the number 1 and 2 spot on the New York Times Young Adult book list. We have both books here at the Campo Library...come check them out or get your name on the waitlist.
With March Madness around the corner, the library has two new books available that have basketball as part of the background. Rebound by Kwame Alexander is an origin tale of Josh and JB’s dad from Alexander’s earlier book The Crossover. Alexander writes novels in verse, which makes the reading level accessible for many readers. And Hooper by Geoff Herbach shows the struggles that the main character, Adam, must deal with as a teenage orphan. Teens will enjoy the play-by-play basketball scenes and will not miss the reality behind the bully in Adam’s life. Both are newly released and available in the Campo Library.
Reminder: Students should make sure to go to their settings once a week to update their Chromebook. If they need any help, they can come to the library.

WINTER BANDS COMPETITIONS AND HONOR BAND MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
Winter Guard
Congratulations to the members of the Winter Guard Program (WGP) for delivering remarkable performances during the Winter Classic Tournament last Saturday. The varsity team performed their show “Revolution,” claiming second place and the JV team won third place after their stunning performance called “Stay.”
Amanda Flores, the Caption Head for the WGP, explained that the show “Revolution,” depicts “someone who is trapped and trying to break free.” By contrast, the show “Stay,” displays the “back and forth of young love,” according to Ms. Flores. The varsity team will be performing their show in Vegas, during the WGI power regional in March. Undoubtedly, the ongoing hard work, passion, and commitment invested by the members of the WGP will lead them to a successful season.
