Battle for AC
Learn the who's and what's of Alternating Current
Alternating Current
Alternating Current is current that periodically changes direction. AC is the form in which electric power is delivered to businesses and residences. Its usual waveform is a sine wave.
The Big 3
Nikola Tesla
He was a Serbian-American inventor who contributed to the development of the alternating-current electrical system that's widely used today and discovered the rotating magnetic field which is the basis of most AC machinery.
George Westinghouse
He was a American inventor and industrialist who was cheifly responsiable for the adoption of Alternating Current from Nikola Tesla.
Thomas Edison
An inventor who created such great innovations such as the electric lightbulb and the photograph. He was a savvy business man who held more than 1000 patents for his inventions and was the creator of Direct current.
Final verdict
The true owner of AC is Nikola Tesla. He kept his patents opened to the public and let people grow off his ideas. George Westinghouse adopted his ideas and made them better. Thomas Edison was just the creator of DC he didn't want AC to develop because DC would be useless.
