What a month it has been at Albert Schweitzer Elementary School! We have had so many FUN And community-driven events in the month of February.
We started with celebrating the 'GO RED' event for the American Heart Association at the beginning of the month then hosted a Sweetheart Dance, A Scholastic Book Fair, a Kids Heart Challenge, the 100th Day of School, and so many other classroom celebrations. Learning is FUN! Please enjoy the many pictures posted below and on Facebook of our events.
We are also moving forward with the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework at each of our buildings. On Tuesday 2/22, teachers met at Tawanka to analyze data and work with grade-level teams to discuss small groups and differentiation in reading and math as well as Tier 1, 2, & 3 supports we are putting in place for our students to help them succeed academically, socially, and behaviorally. We are making great strides in this area.
Thank you for your continued efforts in providing support to your child at home. It certainly does take a village to help our students reach grade-level benchmarks, especially after learning how to navigate the past 22 months during the pandemic!
Take care,
Dr. Amy Orlando
Principal
National 'GO RED' Day Raises Money for American Heart Association
Friday, February 4th was National “GO RED” Day. It was a day to wear red to support and raise money and awareness for the American Heart Association. The day is also about sharing heart health facts and women coming together to take action for women’s heart health. Thank you to the staff and students in the Schweitzer community for donating to the American Heart Association (AHA) for research and helping take action by uniting to prevent heart disease and stroke. Together, we can fight the No. 1 killer of women-cardiovascular disease. We raised a total of 576.55! Thank you!
Sweetheart Dance
On Friday, February 11th, over 500 students and family members were in attendance for Albert Schweitzer’s Sweetheart Dance. DJ Milky Way kept the dance floor groovin', and everyone had their dancing shoes on. Students won raffles to spend time with teachers such as a Sweet Treat with Dr. Orlando, Robot Rumble with 2nd grade teachers, or an Ice Cream Party with K Teachers!
Thank you to all the staff members and families that participated to make this event happen. A special shout-out to our Albert Schweitzer PTO Board members and other parent volunteers. Many volunteers were in attendance and supported this event in many ways including the set up, running the event, donating drinks and snacks, and helping make this special event happen for families! We also had many staff members working behind the scenes to help donate items, coordinate teacher raffle items, and decorate the space! THANK YOU!!

In preparation for Groundhog Day, first grade hibernated on 2/1/22. Students and staff came to school their PJs with blankets and stuffies for the groundhog's possible last day of hibernation. Here are some pictures from Mrs. Dyas's class hibernation read in celebration!
Kids Heart Challenge
The week of February 14th, the students at Schweitzer participated in the American Heart Association's "Kids Heart Challenge." During Physical Education class, the children took part in a Junior Ninja Warrior obstacle course filled with jumps, climbing, crawling and swinging. The program is designed to raise money for research to help kids with heart conditions. Thanks to all that participated in raising funds, we have raised over $6,000 this year and over $28,000 since 2017. We are very proud of our kids here at Schweitzer.
