SLRI Update
Wrapping up School Library Month
Kickstarter Campaign is Funded
We did it! 149 backers raised $8,526 - more than our goal - to produce an 8-minute documentary to tell our story; we'll be able to use it to bring our message to a variety of audiences. We'll keep you updated on the project's progress.
If you missed our Kickstarter deadline, you can still contribute to the RILA/COLA campaign for TV air time; they plan to air an ad during the month of May to show the value of Rhode Island libraries and advocate for public support.
Survey Results Are In
- 20% have no district book budget, up from 18% last year.
- Of those that do receive money from their districts,
50% received less this year than last. - Chariho, East Greenwich, and South Kingstown are moving to
cut funding for the 2017-18 school year.
Reading Week Materials are Ready
Ask your kids to share how the library has empowered them to build a better world: were they inspired by an inventor's biography? have they created something new in a Makerspace? did they learn something fascinating in a nonfiction book? were their eyes opened by something that happened to a fictional character? have they participated in a volunteer or fundraising activity?
The Reading Week Committee has put together some suggested readalouds and school-wide activities. They'll be posted to the OLIS site soon. In the meantime, you may access them below:
