Weekly Update
Hello Fort High Families
We have completed course selections for the 2024/25 school year with grade 10/11 students at Fort High. If your student hasn't completed the process, administration will contact them upon our return from spring break to assist in their selections.
Parent-teacher interviews are scheduled for April 10th and 11th, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, in our school gymnasium. Details for the sign-up process will be provided after the break.
With our Graduation date set for June 1, expect graduation tickets to go on sale starting on May 13, more details to follow at the end of April.

Three Part Anxiety Series - Month of April
Good morning Everyone,
FCSS is hosting a Three Part Anxiety Series by Dr Caroline Buzanko, some of you may remember her from last year when she came up in person to present at the Shell Theatre.
Dr Caroline has done three pre-recorded sessions that are available for the month of April. Once you register the YouTube Link and handouts are emailed to you and you can watch at your own leisure. The three sessions are:
Part 1: Understanding and Addressing Anxiety
In part one of this series, we will explore the difference between normal worries and anxiety disorders, how anxiety shows up, and the fundamental core of anxiety - critical knowledge for effectively supporting anxious children and teens. We will also uncover the common traps that even the most caring adults can stumble into that inadvertently strengthen anxiety and what you can start doing immediately instead to promote children's and teens' resilience.
Part 2: Emotional Intelligence for Children and Teens
In part two of this series, we delve into the function of emotions and offer insights on becoming an effective emotion coach for children and teens when big emotions show up. We cover essential strategies to enhance emotion regulation and resilience and tactics to outsmart anxiety's deceptive tricks.
Part 3: Empowering Responses to Anxiety for Youth
In our final video, learn how to empower children and teens to confront their anxieties with confidence, enhancing cognitive flexibility, and effective problem-solving. Discover the transformative power of daring and defying anxiety, building resilience, and fostering a mindset of risk-taking and committed action to support thriving and long-term well-being.
These sessions are great for teachers, caregivers, individuals who work with children/youth and there is even some great understanding and tips for those who work with adults.

REMINDER: Next Exam Catch Up Day - March 20
We are excited to offer exam catch up after school, three Wednesday's a month. The first Wednesday each month is reserved for Staff Meetings, where there will be no exams running. Please be sure your children have arranged transportation should they write past bus departure at 3:20 p.m. and please remind them to bring supplies to complete the exam (e.g. calculator, pencil etc.)
It is expected that students communicate with their teachers to make arrangements.

Support for Ukrainian Students: CUAET & Ukrainian students
For Ukrainian international students who came to Canada through the Canada-Ukraine authorization for emergency travel (CUAET) visa, NAIT will waive the international differential fees . This means eligible students would pay the same tuition rates as a Canadian citizen for the 2025/24 academic year.
· If you came to Canada using the CUAET temporary residence pathway and you are accepted into a NAIT, please submit a contact form using:
o Topic: Funding and Financial Account, Subcategory: Ukraine CUAET supports.
o You must attach your work permit or study permit that shows your CUAET status.

Royal Canadian Navy Career Fair - March 16
I’m Lieutenant (Navy) N. Zach Lipinski and I work in the outreach office of the Royal Canadian Navy. I’m reaching out to inform you that the Royal Canadian Navy is hosting a Career Fair at Edmonton’s Naval Reserve training hub and recruiting centre.
What: Career Fair exhibiting opportunities available in the Royal Canadian Navy
- Officers and Sailors will display specialized equipment, and share skills and experiences gained from working with Canada’s Navy.
Where: HMCS Nonsuch, 11807 Kingsway NW, Edmonton, AB, T5G 2W5
When: Saturday, 16 March, 2024, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
The Navy offers a diverse variety of occupational opportunities with flexible work schedules (one day a month to full-time employment); members can be employed in Edmonton, across the country, and around the world in service of Canada. This employment consideration is ideal for students nearing graduation and seeking adventure (Minimum requirements: Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident, 16 years old and up).
The Naval Reserve also provides excellent benefits for those seeking part-time and casual employment with the Navy. For those pursuing a post-secondary education, the Navy funds $2,000 per year, up to $8,000 over four years, with no service commitments required. Additionally, we offer 90% Dental coverage with no plan payments or deductible.

Community Connections Evening - April 8
6:30 - 8:30 pm
BGC, Families First and Restorative Justice along with FCSS have been working hard to create an event that is coming up Monday, April 8th 6:30-8:30pm for caregivers. BGC is graciously hosting the event. This is an opportunity to come together and meet other caregivers and participate in a couple of learning sessions. Childcare and a light supper will be provided.
There will be Four sessions offered with the chance to participate in Two.
