Spring Break
Happy Friday! Spring Break is upon us, and I hope that each of you will have time to disconnect and enjoy those important individuals in your lives.
Dress Code
I hope that everyone has had a chance to enjoy the nice weather over the past few days. With the warmer weather, I would like to take this opportunity to discuss a sensitive but essential topic. Middle school is a trying time for our students, and many struggle with navigating adolescent development. Many of those challenges include fitting in by wearing current, fashionable clothing and garments. While the administration at the middle school understands that clothing is an integral part of self-expression, we ask that all of our students wear clothing suitable for school. As the weather gets warmer, please keep this in mind as your child dresses for school. We want to ensure that our school is an appropriate place for learning. Links to our student handbook regarding dress code can be found here (on page 12).
Communication
Parents, please note that our administrative team always remains committed to assisting with your concerns. However, we ask that you, as a general rule of courtesy, if you have questions or concerns regarding one of your child's classes, please get in touch with the classroom teacher as a rule of thumb before contacting the building administration or school counselor.
Advisory
Today our students participated in a school-wide Mix It Up Day. Mix-It-Up was established to encourage students to step out of their comfort zones, build community, and meet other students they may not otherwise get a chance to see. Our Peer Leaders helped to develop, create, and facilitate the lesson for this year's Mix-It-Up Day. Groups of sixth, seventh, and eighth graders had a chance to interact through icebreakers and a paper challenge. All students and teachers alike mentioned the Mix-It-Up Day was a “fantastic advisory” and asked to do it again next year.
