Meet the TUSD Star: Elizabeth Valenzuela Smith🌟
Mexican American Student Services department is thrilled to spotlight Elizabeth Valenzuela Smith with immense pride! Their achievements bring excitement to both the TUSD community and Pueblo High School. Elizabeth comes from a family of highly successful wrestlers. Her father, Josiah Smith, won state in 1998, and her grandfather, Orlando Smith, won state in 1974 and 1975. Among her many accomplishments, she is the first female state champion from Pueblo High, the first female state champion for the Tucson Unified School District, and an 8-time All-American wrestler. Not only is she a great athlete, but she also excels academically, maintaining a 4.0 GPA. Additionally, Elizabeth is an active member of the Diva Warriors club, further showcasing her dedication and leadership skills. She serves as a role model for young folks, highlighting the importance of dedication and hard work both on and off the mat.🎉❤️

Tucson High M.E.CH.A Unity Festival /Festejo de la Unidad
Saturday April 6th from 4:00-8:00pm MEChA will be hosting our annual Unity Fest! We will be following the 5 elements of hip hop: lyricism, DJing, movement/dance, graffiti, and historical knowledge. Unity Fest will be multi-cultural, educational, family friendly, and will have free resources.

Collaborative Research in Action Youth Symposium
Collaborative Research in Action (CRiA) is collaborative space for young people to discuss social issues and create plans of action toward change. We host a yearly CRiA Youth Symposium at the University of Arizona. It is open to all K-12 youth that want to collaborate around social change.

Cultivando Mentes Brillantes
El programa tiene como objetivo abordar las necesidades específicas de los padres y tutores latinos de jóvenes que aprenden de manera diferente y brindarles información y herramientas para apoyar eficazmente el éxito académico de sus hijos. A partir de ahora, Cultivando Mentes Brillantes solo se llevará a cabo en español y está dirigido a padres de jóvenes desde jardín de infantes hasta 12.º grado.

TUSD Earth Day Poster Competition/ Concurso del Día de la Tierra de TUSD
TUSD and Republic Services invite your school to participate in the TUSD Earth Day Poster Competition! The poster must include artistic drawings, cartoons, or diagrams of all items including a blue Republic Container, landfill, and Planet Earth. Submit via email a photo of your classroom poster entry to Emma at ereyes3@republicservices.com by April 12th. NOTE: Republic Services may request to see actual posters to narrow down the top three classrooms. 4
Top Three Classrooms will be announced on Earth Day, on Monday, April 22nd, and receive a PIZZA PARTY from Republic Services. (See attached flyer with contest details).
