Thomas Jefferson School-The Tie That Binds
Principal's Message
TJ Community:
The last few weeks have been filled with some major changes. First and foremost, we pushed back our start to the school day 35 minutes. For the most part, it has been a successful transition to the new start time, but there are a few reminders I'd like to share to help us improve our procedures.
Our new "entrance time" for students is 8:10. That is when the doors open and adults are at the front door supervising the students as they come into the building. I know this change might be difficult for some of you and your work schedules, but please do not drop off the students much earlier than that time because they will need to wait outside until 8:10. In addition, once you drop off your child, we ask that you don't remain in the car line as there are other cars behind you that need to leave.
I'm hoping the few buses that seem to be late each day will also improve as well. Parents, thank you for your patience with this major change.
In addition, another big change is the move to a mask recommended as opposed to required. This change seems to be going smoothly as well. Please continue to remind your child(ren) that wearing or not wearing a mask is a family decision and all the adults in the school will support whatever decision each child/family makes.
Have a great few weeks and know that our spring break is right around the corner!
Sincerely,
Dr. Sasso

To help us with planning for next year, it's very important that we know who our new families are as early as possible. If you know of any NEW families that live in your neighborhood, please feel free to share this information with them.
If anyone needs help, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
TJ PBIS Celebration
As you know, the students at TJ always do an AWESOME job meeting our expectations. Each month we try to recognize students for meeting those expectations by offering fun activities that students can "purchase" using their TJ Tickets they have earned. Our students earn these tickets by being Respectful, Responsible and Safe.
This week we celebrated with our students by offering many different activities. Our older students were able to purchase an opportunity to play basketball against the teachers and the younger students were able to use their tickets to enter our awesome dance party. In addition, students used their tickets to wear their hat to school, bring a stuffed animal to school, earn a homework pass and some choose to use a few of their tickets to get their picture taken to be on the morning announcements.
It was a great day and below are just some of the pictures of our students.

SUMMER READING OPPORTUNITY!
The Center for Literacy at National Louis University is offering a Summer Reading Program to help students who are experiencing reading and/or writing difficulties.
Tutors are licensed teachers who are earning their graduate degree as a Reading Specialist.
Students receive one-to-one tutoring in reading and writing one hour per day, four mornings per week, for five weeks.
The program will run from June 27-July 28, and daily attendance (virtual or in person) is mandatory.
Services will be available in English and Spanish.
D15 students can register for a discounted rate of $100!
The Multilingual Department will cover this cost with grant funding for any EL student. Parents can fill out the application online (link in the flyer) and do not need to pay anything. Our Department will collaborate with NLU to provide payment on behalf of our EL families.
General education students experiencing reading/writing difficulties can also sign up for the discounted rate. Parents can sign up directly with NLU using the link on the attached flyers.
This program will fill quickly! Please help us fill the spots with D15 students who would benefit from this valuable opportunity.
