CONNECTING WITH THE WORLD TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR THE WEEK OF JULY 16-20, 2018
Happy second week of school. We hope that last week was a productive one.
SHOUT OUTS:
- Thank you to Kayla for updating the PUE website with the new staff pictures, and other site enhancements. Continue to review our site and share with Kayla suggestions to enhance our site. She could also use pictures of class activities to post on the site. Be sure that turned in pics have parent picture releases.
- Thank you to Maryann Hopper for initiating the idea to specialists to work with Ms. Owens first graders so that Whitney could concentrate on her kindergarten staggered entry.
- Thanks also to Ben Stern for taking on the start of school technology needs.
** When you see or hear of great ideas that a colleague is doing please forward them to us so that we can give a shout out.
Brief Professional Bio Needed:
Many of you have already posted a brief professional bio on your website. We would like to have a professional bio on each of the team pages. Please put together a brief bio (paragraph or so) for Kayla to post on your team page. Since she is out next week please have them to her by next Monday, July 23.
Hot Weather Continues:
Although recesses are earlier this year, please make sure to watch for heat stress symptoms, have students take and DRINK water outside, and if it is announced there is a heat advisory/Index on WPAW, please limit time outside or have indoor recess. Be sure to pay attention to the announcements. If you haven't strongly encouraged having a water bottle to keep hydrated please share with parents.
Lunch:
* Thank you for eating with your classes the first week of school. Kindergarten teachers will eat with their classes the second week of school and there after all teachers will monitor classes each week. Please make sure to adhere to the times on the schedule as closely as possible. Classes that are not picked up on time will be asked to line up to make way for incoming classes. If classes line up in the main hallway, please try to avoid families that are eating outside the cafeteria by moving up toward the media center.
* IF YOU HAVEN'T TURNED IN A SEATING CHART, please do so. Copies will be made and kept in the notebook in the cafeteria. If you make changes to the charts, make sure you do so in the notebook and let the person on duty know of the change. Also, please chose two students to gather trash/sweep. Either have the students wear a lanyard (if you have any in your classroom please return them) or let the person on duty know who the students are when you come in.
* IT IS IMPORTANT TO GO OVER LUNCH BEHAVIOR BEFORE COMING TO LUNCH. Students need reminders. TAs will be using the lights for whole class discipline:
1) Warning
2) 5 minutes silence
3) Teacher eats with students the next day and/or students eat in the classroom and have silent lunch.
In addition: TAs will ask individual students to sit separately if disruptive or will assign silent lunch through the classroom teacher. Any student that does not comply with redirection will be referred to the office. There will also be competitions among some grade-levels for extra recess/positive reinforcement etc... once lunch schedules/seating is solidified.
* Lunch coverage will be handled as efficiently as possible. As mentioned at various meetings/leadership last year, covering lunches- particularly when track 4 is in- is impossible to do with the limited support staff that we have at PUE. As a result we will need your help. This year, teachers will be part of the process and will receive a coverage rotation in the event lunch can’t be covered. Teachers will receive a duty roster for his/her potential day of coverage in next week’s announcements.
Morning Routine: Please remind students that they are to report DIRECTLY to class in the morning. Although they miss their former teachers, they should not visit classrooms, go to the bathroom, or wander around. In addition, please do not allow students to visit teachers on Fridays as an "unofficial" school sponsored activity. Thanks.
Specials Calendar: Mr. Stern will provide specials calendars for each track very soon. In the meantime, Monday is day 2, Tuesday is day 3, Wednesday is day 4, Thursday is day 1, and Friday is day 2.
Deadlines: If you haven't turned in forms to Ms. Britt from the first week of training, please do so. The sign off sheet is in the conference room. Also, please continue to gather forms from parents (bus letter, for instance) by class and turn those forms in to the office staff. Field Trip dates/forms are due by August 31st, as well. We have posted needed forms in the Sunday Message for parents to remember.
Thank you: Thank you to everyone that made the first week of school a success. You made a great impression and students really like you all! No surprise there. It must be because we look so great in our new shirts :-)
