- How can I find someone that can run my business? We're so unique!
- What will I do with my time if I'm not running the company?

U-Lock Mini Storage, CAFE Family Business Member, recently joined forces with a few other self storage operators across Canada and formed a National brand and coverage of portable storage www.cubeit.ca These systems are the best in the industry (strong and all steel) and allow for extremely convenient moving and storage.
Customers provide the delivery location and they then load it themselves on their own schedule. There’s no rush – some people load over a month while others just take a day. Hired movers can load the cubes as well. When a customer is done with the cube or need it relocated they just all and it is moved for them.
Cubeit is currently operating throughout the Lower Mainland and will have full service on the Island this fall. They are very excited to have both a traditional and portable storage option for their customers!

Member Profile
James McKenzie, CEO of Monk Office, was a founding member of CAFE Vancouver Island in October 1999 and previous to this date, was involved with CAFE Canada for many more years. In fact, he has been a member of a Personal Advisory Group (PAG) with CAFE for over 20 years.
Thriving today, the picture wasn’t always this rosy. In the mid 90’s, James called an emergency meeting of his PAG to help address a critical situation. The talent around the table then and the shared experiences through CAFE over the years have ensured the company’s continued success. Along the way, a successful transition of the business from father to son and the preservation of family relationships have been among the gold nuggets derived from James’ involvement in CAFE that have helped this family business.
What does success look like for Monk Office? Originally a small stationery store, they now have retail stores in ten locations stretching to Port Hardy along with two office furniture showrooms and a large commercial office products distribution centre in Victoria. Their focus on extraordinary customer service and expertise as well as their recent move into technology provides for one-stop customer satisfaction. Their business vision is to help customers’ lives run smoothly.
Monk Office Supply was purchased by Ron McKenzie in 1963 and ultimately James bought into the business, increased his shares, bought out his father and became the major partner alongside Ross Hill. Their dramatic growth and new directions give the business its look today. Among the benchmarks in this successful story of growth and survival was the company’s membership in BASICS Office Products, the largest office products buying group in Canada.
Through the commitment and effort of the staff and management of Monk Office, they have become the premiere office products dealer on Vancouver Island.
