Quarter 3
Late Medieval/Proto-Renaissance?
Sometimes naming a unit or chapter of a book is problematic. I'm calling our next unit "Late Medieval/Proto-Renaissance." Gardner's Art Through the Ages calls this period "From Gothic to Renaissance." What we are looking at here is art from roughly from the late 13th and early 14th century that precedes the Renaissance. Yes, we're one unit away from the Renaissance! Just when you think everything is going to be confusing because this period doesn't have a distinct name (like Romanesque, Early Christian, Etruscan, etc.), stay calm...we have artist names! Don't stay too calm...you'll have to identify these artist names on the image IDs :) Artist names definitely help organize our understanding of art. From here on out, we need to know artists.
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 FYI
All three parts are meant to be completed together, but because the content is so different I separated it. I just felt like it was too random to put together. You can treat these three parts like one assignment.
Part 1 - Materials and Technique
Part 2 - Anatomy of an Altarpiece
Part 3 - Introduction to Late Medieval/Proto-Renaissance Art (Part 3 will be posted Sunday night, please complete by Monday night)
Style/Period Cue Cards
Please bring to your yellow cue cards for style/period to class on Tuesday. I forgot to collect them on Friday. We were having too much of a good time and I was too amazed with the psychic abilities of certain students to remember to collect them.
