Week 32: March 25 - March 28, 2024
Hirsch Core Values: Self-Discipline, Optimism, Altruism, and Respect!!!
Principal's Corner
Dear Hirsch Hawk Parents and Guardians,
I hope this letter finds you well and enjoying the early signs of spring that are beginning to grace us with their presence. As we welcome the blooming flowers and warmer weather, I wanted to remind you that there will be no school on Friday, March 29, due to the Easter holiday weekend.
With the arrival of spring comes another important event in our school calendar—the STAAR test. The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness will commence the week of April 15. This assessment provides us with valuable insights into your child's progress and helps us tailor our teaching to better support their academic growth.
For our students in 3rd through 5th grade, the STAAR test includes assessments in both Math and Reading. Additionally, our 5th graders will be taking the Science STAAR test.
To ensure your child is prepared for these assessments, here are a few tips on how you can support them at home:
1. **Encourage Daily Reading**: Reading regularly helps improve comprehension, vocabulary, and overall test-taking skills. Spend time reading with your child or encourage them to read independently.
2. **Practice Math Skills**: Utilize online resources, workbooks, or flashcards to reinforce math concepts covered in class. Regular practice boosts confidence and familiarity with problem-solving strategies.
3. **Create a Quiet Study Space**: Designate a quiet area in your home where your child can concentrate on homework and review materials without distractions.
4. **Healthy Habits**: Ensure your child gets plenty of rest leading up to the test days. A good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast can go a long way in promoting alertness and focus.
As we prepare for this important assessment period, we also invite you to join us in celebrating our Camp Write-A-Lot themes! Each grade level will have its unique decorations, creating a vibrant and engaging environment for our students.
- -Our 3rd graders are heading to the beach with a "Surf's Up" theme, focusing on writing skills that are now integral to their reading test.
- 4th graders are launching into Space Camp, exploring the wonders of writing in the context of space adventures.
- 5th graders are venturing into the woods with Camp Write-a-Lot, immersing themselves in writing activities amidst nature's inspiration.
We encourage parents to participate by helping to decorate for these themes. If you are interested, please reach out to your child's teacher or the school office to find out more about how you can get involved.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child's education. Together, we can help them succeed and thrive.
