GT Summer Testing
Gifted and Talented Program nominations are now open for 2024 summer testing. Students who enrolled in Bush after January 1, 2024 are eligible for testing. If your child enrolled after January 1, 2024, and you believe your child should be tested for our GT program, please click on the link, fill out the forms on the website under the tab labeled Referral Forms (only fill out the Referral form and Parent Survey) and return them to Mrs. Dupre. Nominations will be accepted until April 30, 2024. Testing will take place May 28-30 from 8:00 -11:00 am at Bush Elementary. If you have any questions, reach out to Mrs. Dupre, our GT coordinator at ddupre@conroeisd.net.
Reporting Student Absences
If your child is sick or will not be present at school please inform us each day of the absence. To report an absence for your child, please do one of the following:
- Email the registrar – srandall@conroeisd.net with your student’s absence information.
- Call our attendance line at 936-709-1610 and leave a message stating your child’s name, reason for the absence, person reporting the absence, and a phone number.
When your child returns to school, a note explaining the absence should be brought to their teacher or the front office.
If your child is not in attendance at school for the entire day for any reason, the student is considered “absent”. There are basically two types of absences:
- Excused Absence: an absence is considered "excused" when there is prior parental notification (phone call or email) explaining the absence, or a note from a parent or medical professional upon return to school. Absences can be excused if they are related to illness, medical appointment, a death in the family, or other health related reasons. An excused absence does not remove the absence from the student’s record, but it does document that a student is absent for an excusable reason.
- Unexcused Absence: an absence is considered “unexcused” when there is no prior parental notification, no note or email sent upon return explaining the absence, for family travel/vacation, or other absences not recognized as "excused" by the district or state.

Student Placement for 2024-25
Student placement for the 2024-2025 school year is decided by a committee made up of your child’s current year's teachers, principal, assistant principals, counselors, and sometimes other staff that may work with your students. We work very hard to match children's learning styles and personalities with next year's teachers. We take this task very seriously and examine the strengths and needs of each child as we strive to place each student in the environment in which he/she will be most successful.
Our placement committee will begin meeting soon, and we continue to work through placement procedures throughout the summer. Because of this, families will be notified of their child’s teachers the week before school begins in August. Once your child's placement is complete, it is not possible to make changes, as this compromises the dynamics of the entire class. We work very hard to create just the right environment for each student.
If you would like to share information with the committee regarding your child's placement, please complete the information in this link. Information must be submitted by April 12th as we will begin placement decisions at that time.
If you have expressed a concern in previous years, and you feel that it should still be considered, please communicate this information every year using the link above. We do not review previous year's requests. Please do not request specific teachers or make friend requests for your child. Class composition and a learning/personality match are our top priority as we strive for the correct placement for each child. We appreciate your help and support with this very important endeavor.
Head Lice Information
Although not an illness or disease, lice is most common among children ages 3-11 and spread by direct head-to-head contact; i.e. during play at home or school, slumber parties, camps, sports and after school activities. Less often, head lice is spread via objects that have been in recent contact with a person with head lice, such as hats, scarves, hair combs, brushes, etc. However, it is always good practice to avoid sharing these items. Please also be aware that lice do not jump, hop or fly.
The best treatment for lice is prevention. Bush Elementary and CISD appreciates our families assisting us in the prevention and control of head lice in our school with routine family inspection after play and sports activities, prompt and effective treatment, and educating your student to avoid direct or indirect contact with other people’s hair.
Also, please remember outbreaks of head lice tend to occur when children return to school after summer vacation and school holiday breaks.
Conroe ISD follows recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), as well as those contained in the position papers of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the National Association of School Nurses (NASN) in the treatment for lice.
PLEASE VISIT ALL OF THESE WEBSITES FOR COMPLETE INFORMATION AND EDUCATION REGARDING HEAD LICE.
Healthy Children.Org – Head Lice: What Parents Need to Know is also an excellent website that provides complete information and recommendations approved by the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Year round awareness and routine family inspection will help prevent head lice occurrences.
Your child can return to school after lice treatment to avoid unnecessary school absences.

Summer Move a Possibility?
If you currently have plans to move over the summer please contact our registrar, Stacey Randall - (srandall@conroeisd.net) . There will be a Summer Mover Form sent to you via your child. We ask that you complete it and send it back to school. If some of the information is not known, we can update via email as needed. This will help in planning for the next year. If you are a fourth-grade parent, and your child will not be attending Mitchell Intermediate, we will let Mitchell know of the possible summer move.
