Term 3, Week 9
20 September 2022
Tēnā koutou katoa
Public Holiday
There will be a one-off, national public holiday on Monday 26 September to commemorate the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. School will be closed.
Health
The Year 4s will be looking at the lessons titled ‘I’m the boss of my body’ and ‘Standing up for myself and others.’ Within these lessons, we will be covering the idea that their body belongs to them and they have the right to say no to hugs etc that are making them feel uncomfortable, and understanding what bullying is and some strategies to combat it.
The Year 5s will continue looking at reproduction and the reproductive system including the correct names for our reproductive body parts.
The Year 6s will continue looking at menstruation and conception.
Lollies at School
It has come to our attention that some students have been bringing lollies to school and giving them out to other students. Some students are also going to the dairy before school to buy lollies to give to others. We are aware that lollies are sometimes being eaten at school and sometimes being put in bags for later. Could you please talk with your child about not bringing lollies to school and not accepting lollies, or any other food, from others?
Sports Equipment at School
Now that the traffic light system has been removed we are able to provide students with sport equipment, such as basketballs and soccer balls, at break times again. We strongly recommend that your child does not bring their own sports equipment to school any longer and instead uses the equipment provided by school.
Hats in Term 4
A reminder that during Term 4 all students need to wear a wide brimmed hat when outside. Please ensure that your child’s hat is named and they know to keep it inside their closed school bag during the day. Hats are available from the school office for $25. We also encourage everyone to wear sunscreen and this is available in all classrooms if students wish to apply it at school.
Enviro Day and Gardening Materials Drive
Kia ora Paparangi School whānau!
Spring has sprung and as such, Paparangi School are using this term's Enviro Day on the 27th September to do a spring clean. As part of this, we are also running another gardening materials drive. We would love to take your pre-loved gardening tools, seeds, seedlings, pots, cuttings, potting mix, etc... off your hands. A new addition to our list of items we would love donated is any test pots that you no longer require. These will be used to help us create a mural with Paparārangi Kindy. Please send your child to school with any donations on the 27th of September and place them in the donation box outside the office or email sam@paparangi.school.nz or christinel@paparangi.school.nz.
Thank you in advance for your donations and support!
Sam, Christine and the Eco Warriors
Yummy Stickers
Thank you for collecting these over the past two terms. Please keep collecting these and send them to school before Wednesday of week 10, 28th September so we can exchange them for sports equipment.
Athletics
This term we are doing an athletics rotation during P.E. Please ensure that your child is coming to school each day prepared for such activities (i.e. clothing and footwear suitable for running and jumping). A spare pair of socks and shoes in your child's bag would also be great if possible.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss anything with us, please remember that your first point of contact is your child’s home class teacher. Our email addresses are:
