Teacher of the Year: Mrs. Ducato
February brought a lot of happy moments to BES. One of those was celebrating Mrs. Ducato (and her fabulous assistant Ms. Mull) as our Teacher of the Year. We had some excellent finalists in Mrs. Landers, Mrs. Poe, and Mrs. Caputo. As you know, we truly have a whole building full of amazing teachers!
Mrs. Ducato will now move on to the district Teacher of the Year selection phase, so we wish her all the best!
Young Georgia Authors
Each year, Barrow County schools participate in the Young Georgia Author contest. This contest includes grades Kindergarten through 12. Our grade level winners were recently celebrated with a Young Georgia Author Tea. They got to have a fancy party in which they were recognized by their teachers. The students each got to read their wonderful pieces of writing to the audience.
Grade level pieces are submitted to the district for a district level competition which is followed by a regional and state contest. Unfortunately, we did not have any district winners this year, but we are so proud of our students accomplishments!
Kindergarten: Lydia Shogren from Mrs. Camp's Class
1st Grade: Sydney Almond from Mrs. Malloch's Class
2nd Grade: Daisy Shogren from Mrs. McAdams' Class

Yes I Can Awards
Each year, Barrow County Schools recognizes students with exceptionalities with an award called "Yes I Can." This award recognizes students who show exceptional perseverance, who have overcome obstacles, and who have made significant improvements in their academic, social, or communication skills. One student from our school is selected as the school-wide winner and gets to participate in the district Yes I Can ceremony at Chateau Elan in April.
Congratulations to our school winner, Brandon Perez-Ramirez and to all of the outstanding students we were fortunate to celebrate!

They will be attending the Bethlehem Town Council meeting on Monday, March 4 to read their essays and have a photo opportunity with the Mayor of Bethlehem.
