Mrs. Miller's Weekly Update
March 28th - April 2nd, 2022
Teaching from the heart
To help with this education, getting kids involved both in extra curricular activities and in their learning is a great way to help teach kids important life lessons. As you will see in this newsletter, our staff and students have been incredibly busy learning and growing as people.
Thanks to all of you, GHV staff and parents, for remembering to educate the hearts of our students in addition to their academics!
ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT BANQUET
In order to qualify for the Academic Achievement Banquet, students must be in the top 10% of their class or have an exemplary ACT or SAT score in the 93rd percentile or higher.
It is an honor to be the principal of such an amazing group of outstanding students!

GHV Esports
Across Iowa, more and more schools are adding esports to their list of extra curricular activities. According to the Iowa High School Esports Association, their mission is the following:
"To support safe and competitive environments for Iowa high school students while promoting team building, communication and critical thinking through esports programs. These programs will provide an opportunity for more students to feel connected to school as well as provide future opportunities in the fields of technology and esports."
Mr. Graham and Mr Ward have accepted the challenge of adding esports to GHV this year. I am happy to announce that our GHV Esports team finished 2nd place in their very first competition this past Friday.
Brandon Roberts, Donovan Grimm, Benz Lester, Cameron Navratil, Tyler Groom, Nolan Balk
Congratulations to these students as well as Mr. Graham and Mr. Ward. WELL DONE!
FCCLA Father-daughter dance
The dance was a success with a Red Carpet theme. Mrs. Vansickel and her students spent a tremendous amount of time putting this event together. In addition, there are a lot of people involved behind the scenes to make the dance come together, including GHV staff and community members as well. There are too many people to count!
The Father-Daughter Dance is a great example of our school and community partnering together around a shared vision. And I absolutely love to see our high school students interacting with our younger students.
A big shout out to our FCCLA members and Mrs. Vansickel for her leadership. I hope many amazing memories were made for those who played a part in this event and especially for the dads and daughters who attended!
John V. Hanson Career Center
Our GHV students joined students from Forest City to get more hands on, in depth exposure to the areas they are interested in pursuing. The four academies are Advanced Manufacturing, Construction Trades, Information Technology, and Health Careers. Students will earn college credit by enrolling in NIACC classes at the Career Center their senior year.
Once again, I love seeing GHV partnering with the community in order to provide these amazing opportunities for our kids!
NHS Blood Drive
Thanks to Mrs. Mitchell and our NHS for sponsoring this important, life saving event!
This week we have band, FFA, and soccer events to look forward to, along with many other activities going on both in and out of the classroom.
We have so much to be proud of at GHVHS!
