W-I-G: WILDLY IMPORTANT GOAL
INCREASE READING AND WRITING BY 10 PERCENTAGE POINTS BY JUNE 2018
Clean Up For All!!
As we get closer to the end of the school year, the remodel of our building is becoming more of a reality. In order to be ready to move during the construction, EVERYONE must do the following beginning now:
*move paper items (test, quizzes, etc) in to an electronic format/the less in filing cabinets the better
*throw away/recycle papers/old exams/used scan sheets/etc
*take personal items home, including any furniture items. Personal furniture items will not be able to be placed back in the classroom.
*clean out department storage rooms.
*When you box up items which will remain in your classroom, you will only put your NAME of the boxes.
*NO Furniture or wood items in the dumpsters please!
Everyone will need to be ready to move quickly when the time comes. We will email those who need to be packed and ready to move for June 1 in the next few days, however, everyone must be in "ready to move" mode.
Large items which need to be disposed of will need to be marked with a red piece of tape/red X taped to the item.
We will have 2 large grey rollings dumpster bins to use. You are responsible for dumping what you put in it. The dumpster at the back of the building will be the one we will use.

Student of the Month of March- Tin Tran
Grade: 8
Age: 14
Parent names: Thao Lu
Extracurricular activities: Tin loves to play video games and sleep outside of school!
Why was this student selected for Student of the Month?
Tin Tran is an amazing young man. Just a year ago, he moved to the United States from Vietnam, knowing almost no English. Since that time he has worked hard to acquire the necessary language skills to perform extremely well in his studies. Even when he struggles, Tin keeps his head up and works through the challenges. He has been an inspiration to me. I will be sorry to lose him as a student when he goes to high school, but I am incredibly proud of the progress he has made. … Shane Archer

Randomizer to select students
The traditional way to get responses is to call on a student and then state the question. You now have only that one student who is thinking about the question while all others are "off the hook" and have possibly stopped listening.
"Think-time" is a distinct period of uninterrupted silence by the teacher and all students so that they both can complete appropriate information processing tasks, feelings, oral responses, and actions.
A simple way of incorporating "think - time" is to state a question to the entire class, without calling on the student first, and then wait no more than 3 seconds. After this short time, use a randomizer to select a student to respond.
This process allows all students to hear the questions and process it while they wait to see who will be selected to respond.
See the link above for randomizer apps which could be used to select students randomly and after the questions are posed.
