Celebrating Diversity at Phillips
Our students, families, and staff represent diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds, and we continue to celebrate our wonderful Phillips Family! As Maya Angelou said, “In diversity there is beauty and there is strength.”
Device Free Lunch
At Phillips we continuously strive to promote best practices with our students. This year we have begun a Scholar Learning Community in which students learn life skills such as working with partners, respect, showing grit, and communicating effectively. To assist teaching students to become more effective communicators, in the cafeteria you will find communication cards at the parent-student lunch tables. We are encouraging these tables to be device free and offer conversation cards that you and your child may choose to use.
If you and your child participate in the device free lunch by using the conversation cards, please turn in your visitor tag to the office. Our office staff will be placing your visitor tag in a bucket. Once a month a Phillips staff member will draw a tag and the lucky winner will receive a spirit stick and their own conversation cards to use at home. I've included this link to highlight the concept of device-free dining.

We are very excited about this new opportunity and hope you and your child will like it too.
Thank you for your support and encouragement at home. Everything we do is better when our Phillips Families are involved.

NOVEMBER: Parents! We need some volunteers to help Coach Dillard with crowd control during Health Clinic height and weight measurements for 3rd - 5th graders. We need a volunteer in the nurse's office to watch/keep kids quiet who are waiting for their turn, and one volunteer in the hallway by the office to keep the rest of the class quiet. Slots are open for mornings November 7 - 11. http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0448acad2ba0f58-health
DECEMBER: Peppermint Village Shopping: Join us as students experience the joy of giving during the holiday season. The Peppermint Village gift shop is the perfect way for children to select holiday gifts for the entire family. We need volunteers who will assist children when making gift selections and managing money while providing a buying experience that is safe, educational and fun. Students will have time to shop during their lunch time all week.
